Greetings all!

New to RFF and was wondering if someone knows this serial number config of the early Canonets? Ths serial number on my camera is 715618. Does anyone know the numbering sequence.

I have been shootong just about everything since 1971 and just love the feel of this little beauty.

Thanks

David

HI,

Not sure if Canon did it with the Canonet range of cameras but in the film chamber there maybe some inked letters and numbers. Usually these give you some indication the date your camera was made. As the Canonet camera came out in 1961 it may not have it. There are a number of Canonet models, is yours the one with the Selenium meter around the lens?. If it is, I am amazed it is still clicking away as so many 9/10 have shutter which are STOOOOFED. Peter K

Thanks

Yes this is the original Canonet as it has the Selenium meter and the left hand advance. I know that the camera had a production run of a year or so before they started to improve and make changes. I have seen versions of this make with the Bell & Howell markings (as US importer) and did not know if my camera was an early or later version. It has stamped in english "Made in Japan" on it so it is not a Japanese production model per se.

Thanks

ps I will check the body when I get home. Theone day I leave that body at home I go to work. Silly me
