How stiff is your focus ring?

Just received my 40mm Nokton from CameraQuest and was just curious to see if you all find your focus ring to be a tad stiff? Once I get it moving, it's very fluid with ample resistance. However, the initial throw seems to require a good amount of pressure.

Is this typical for this lens?

My main lens before the Nokton 40 was a very smooth Elmar 50 so when I got my Nokton 40, I was quite surprised how stiff the focus was. But in using it the past few months, I found that focusing became easier and smoother.
I actually formed a habit of rotating the focus ring back and forth in between my shots, this might have helped somewhat.

The focus ring on my Skopar 35/2.5 was also a bit stiff upon arrival, but it has become a great deal smoother over the past month of use. As long as you're shooting with it regularly, the stiffness should fix itself.

Thanks to you both! I really appreciate your responses. My 35/2.5 Skopar feels a lot smoother than the 40 Nokton, but then again, it's a lot older lens. I will try and exercise the focus ring as often as I can.

No, but they can get sticky if you don't use them, or if a previous owner didn't use them. My Thambar is only a little over 70 years old but it could really do with a clean...
