How strong are "Strap Lugs" on a Contax G1?

Hi, All,

The title says it all...

I am interested in whether the "Strap Lugs" on a Contax G1 are strong enough to allow for only a one-sided wrist strap to be used.

So...would only ONE of the strap lugs safely support this rather meaty camera on a swingin' strap.

Not a fan of wrist straps for anything bigger than a point & shoot (for ergonomic reasons), but based on my G2 (& Hexar RF, which is based on a similar frame), I'd say yes, the lugs are plenty strong.

The ones on my recently purchased G1 are a bit loose. I still put a Gordy's wrist strap on it (I don't generally dangle my cameras).

I was concerned, since the metal loop things seem to wiggle a bit...

I do understand your not being a fan of wrist straps. This is kinda an experiment.

I've never had a problem with using a single lug mount. It is true that the loads are in shear when using a neck strap and the loads are mostly in tension when dangling the camera with a wrist strap. The lug itself is not the problem, it would be the lug/body joint. If a lug is a loose it may just a little loose in the joint but that is different that being able to pull the lug through the body. A hanging camera just doesn't weigh that much. If there is a question you can always run a little strength test by looping a piece of string though the lug and giving it a moderate pull. That will be more load than a hanging camera. If a test like that should actually pull the lug out then you wouldn't have wanted to be attaching any strap to it.
