I have been fortunate in not yet burning a hole in my M6TTL shutter by leaving the lens cap off in the sun... Note I said "not yet". I just tested a hypothesis involving aperture opening and focus distance that might prevent this from ever happening. Wondering if these findings might be valid:
BTW, I'm a first time poster: getting tired of the vitriolic attitude on p-net.
- With empty camera, I set the shutter on B, opened shutter, put a white paper card in the film gate
- Pointed camera at sun with lens (35lux) wide open, focused at infinity
- Noticed very bright pin-point image of sun on white card that would likely cause burning of shutter
- Closed down lens to f/16, set focus to close focus limit
- Now sun image relatively large, quite dim and blurred. Probably not likely to cause burning of shutter
