I have been fortunate in not yet burning a hole in my M6TTL shutter by leaving the lens cap off in the sun... Note I said "not yet". I just tested a hypothesis involving aperture opening and focus distance that might prevent this from ever happening. Wondering if these findings might be valid:
  1. With empty camera, I set the shutter on B, opened shutter, put a white paper card in the film gate
  2. Pointed camera at sun with lens (35lux) wide open, focused at infinity
  3. Noticed very bright pin-point image of sun on white card that would likely cause burning of shutter
  4. Closed down lens to f/16, set focus to close focus limit
  5. Now sun image relatively large, quite dim and blurred. Probably not likely to cause burning of shutter
So, could closing down the aperture and setting lens to close focus limit eliminate the possibility of shutter burning? I'm not a fan of lens caps, so hoping this might be a viable option.

BTW, I'm a first time poster: getting tired of the vitriolic attitude on p-net.
