Thank goodness this thread was available, or I would've never figured out how to post a picture.

"In RFF, when you're writing a post, you'll see some little buttons above the text box where you type. One looks like a green landscape picture with the sun in it. That's the "Insert Photo" button. Click it, and a box appears asking you for the image address. Paste in this the Image Location you copied from the website where the photo is hosted. The image will appear in the text box, and you can then type a caption for it if you wish."
That's very clear, but it means that you must have a "website where the photo is hosted".
I don't have a website, blog, Flickr, or other photo hosting service. How can I post photos here on RFF? I'd like to.

There are two ways to do it if you don't have a site or a hosting service. Both are free.
1: The RFF Gallery. All RFF members can put their work up on the RFF gallery. You can use the RFF gallery as a hosting service for your photos, which you can then put in threads on the forums.
2: You can attach photos to your posts. This uploads the photo to the RFF server, and the photo will display in your post as a thumbnail. People will have to click the thumbnail to see the photo larger.
Here's how: When you respond to a thread, scroll down below the text box and there will be a button that says "Manage Attachments." Click it, and it'll let you upload photos.

Yes! That button: "Manage Attachments" is in "go advanced" when you respond to a thread. It allows me to upload from my hard drive - yippee!! 😀
I have to "reduce my image to 1200 pixels on the longest side." Then I can post - hazza!!

Ahhh... Thanks Chris. This was my experience when I posted yesterday and couldn't work out how to get a large image size like others do. So I either have to post from images I upload to my RFF gallery or a hosting service like Flickr, or put up with thumbnails.

I've been trying to find a way to post pics, mostly on "What have you just bought" and "Show us your folder" etc. without having to use online web-hosts, as it turns out that the one I was using had nsfw ads (which no-one on the forum told me about for a long time) and was hoping there was an allowed image hosts list, but meanwhile I've just gone to the Gallery to see if I can upload pics that way and it's asking me to "select a lens" either globally or individually. Why? Can I just upload a pic and mention the lens in the text of the post if I want to?
The RFF Gallery is indeed a fine place to host images though they be limited in number. And if you remove the source image from the Gallery the image then disappears from the thread where it was posted (but that's the same wherever it's hosted). You can mention lens detail in the post and/or in the descriptive text block in the Gallery listing... But what raises your resistance to just picking the lens off the list? You should build your personal list off the contents of the main Gallery list, then it's pretty convenient to use. And this Gallery-based lens info doesn't show outside the Gallery anyway. Further, you can just ignore the suggestion to add lens info in the Gallery if you want. 🙂

Is it possible to remove an image from my gallery, and if it can be deleted how do I delete it because I do not see a delete image option on my gallery.

Go to the main menu, select photos than select my photos and select the photo you desire to delete and click the icon of the trash bin below your photo and confirm the deletion.

I save my .jpg files on a website (mine) that allows me to copy the url and link it here, using the "post reply" button at the left, and then the little picture button on the upper bar of this message box.

Note that I usually edit the string down to the URL containing the IMG command, or to just the IMG token portion. For example,

Editing away the URL tokens to the IMG just presents the image:

- Select the photo
- In a web browser (NOT the Flickr app on iOS or Android!), tap the Share tool
- In the dialog that overlays the photo, click the BBCode option
- Pick a size from the lower pop-up menu
- Select and Copy the command string Flickr displays.
- Paste that into the RFF editor for a post.
- Submit the post or reply, the image will display.
The command string will look like this:

Don't know anything about that. But you can use the same tags— <IMG>http://blah-blah-photo_dot_jpg</IMG> —for any photo that is on a webserver. (obviously, use square brackets instead of pointy brackets.)

To the OP just save the photos in your rff gallery and link them from there. Only way that works for me.
Godfrey, I always like your posts but those two may as well be in martian. I bet most of us on this site would have no idea whatsoever what those posts mean, excepting the IT technicians here of which there may be a few.......
The day we have to learn HTLM code to post a photo will be the day this site dies. Even looking at HTML gives me a pounding headache........
I keep thinking this site needs to be revised to make uploading photos easy but then I see what happened when Photo.net went to 2.0 and I lie down until the feeling passes
If I post photos here regularly it becomes easy from my gallery but if I take a month off it takes me hours to work out how to do it again, it simply is not intuitive.
