Hi Mods,
The subforum Help/Feedback does not support embending pictures so i thought to start it here. Please move it to another more appropriate thread.

If you have a black background on RFF like i do, you might find the instructions confusing - keep scrolling down there are 7 steps on this tutorial.

So, lets imagine that you want to post a picture here from Flickr. Uploading from other sites is very similar - you need to figure out how to do Step 4 onwards.

1)You go to the Flickr website, find the picture and at the bottom right of the page you click the download button

---------------------------------------
2) You select "View all sizes"

---------------------------------------
3) You right click on the picture (various sizes will be available) and you select "View image" (this will open the picture on the tab)

3.jpg

---------------------------------------
4) You select and copy the URL that appears on the top. Notice that it ends in "blablabla.jpg"

---------------------------------------
5) You go to rangefinderforum, on the dialog box at the bottom, you will spot the Image button. You can type the text you want before using it. When you want to upload a picture, hit that button.

---------------------------------------
6) On the dialog box that opens, you paste (make sure you delete the Http that is already written there") what you copied in step 5.

7) The picture will appear on the textbox. Hit the Post quick reply button and you are ready to go

Thank you, Pan, for the clear instructions: much appreciated.

Would I like to post photos on RFF? Yes, of course. But I found it quite a faff and more trouble than I want to get involved in doing.

I’m not that technically-minded and linking images on my own website hosted by Wordpress is a pain: I gave up in frustration very early on after joining the RFF.

Why can’t I just copy and paste an image to the RFF? Answering my own question… I’m guessing images take up space on the RFF website but linking them doesn’t.

If I’ve missed something, can someone explain?

Grrr… :bang:

There's an easier way to share a photo from Flickr using the BBCode link (obtained by clicking the "Share photo" icon for an image in Flickr and choosing BBCode as the share method, copying the link provided, and pasting into your RFF post.

I totally agree it's an unfortunate challenge using this site that image posting is so difficult (even for an IT professional like me). I have only found one other way to do it which is to upload an image to the gallery, and then share from there. Are there easier ways to post an image directly to a thread? Most of my cameras and lens pictures are not on Flickr and I generally don't have the time or motivation to post them to the gallery first.

Agreed, this is the easier way.

If there is a way of posting images directly from a Wordpress website , I would like to know it.
Or from other website hosting services.

Regards
Joao

Yes there is - just read largedrink's post just below. Many hosting services like Flickr and Imgur give you the link text next to or below your image and all you do is paste that text into the text box in RFF. It is honestly the simplest way if you are using one of those services. Copy, paste, DONE!

In Flickr there is a little "bent arrow" (share) symbol below and to the right of your image.
Click on that and then when the box pops (see example below) select the BBCode (Bulletin Board) option.
Then just choose the image size that you want to post to RFF and when you have done that copy the text in the box above it.
Paste that into RFF. You do not even have to use the RFF image insertion option - just copy the text the same as you would any other text.
Imgur is similar but even easier.

This is great. Now tell me how to navigate Flickr.

Oh, I’ve done it once or twice and managed to post a picture here but it is really time consuming and painful. I’m on a number of other, different subject forums and can upload a picture directly from my computer to the forum post. Bottom line is I just accept I am not going to post pictures here.

I use an iPad for surfing the www.

The problem I seem to have here on this forum is my iPad makes files names with too many characters to upload here. I don’t have an issue like this any where else.

But I don’t load up to the www too many photos anymore. And it’s facebook where, for me, it’s easy peasy to use.

Just my thoughts.

I am a LR user and all my photos are in the LR archive. I prepared an export preset with the size (pixel and MP) a little under what is allowed to post here.

When I desire to post a photo in the gallery or in a thread it's a couple of clicks to export that image in a specific folder and from that folder to post in the RFF gallery, quite simple.

When posting in the gallery I have the option to keep the photo private, in this case it is not visible to everyone (in the gallery) but I can get the adress (copy photo adress) and use it to add the photo in a thread (landscape icon).

I find the process easier to be done than to describe it!

Not all thread allow to have photos included.

For me it is ok.

I've never posted in the RFF Gallery but just checked and it looks simple. Can you then link the Gallery photo to a post?

Yes, keeping in mind not all threads allow photos to be included. If allowed click with the right button on the photo , copy the adress, go to the thread where you want to include it click the landscape icon and insert the copied address. Done:

And evidently even after doing this for years I still screw it up , as per my recent posts in "show me a nice old car" :( , Peter
