Always looking
For those who do not read camera manuals cover to cover, I had a bit of an epiphany. Yesterday I bought a book from Kindle for a train journey up to London this morning - Photographer's Guide to the Canon PowerShot S95 by Alexander White. Nothing fancy, just good honest writing with examples and solid advice.
It wasn't expensive and I thought it might give me some insights into how to get more out of the little camera on the street. Now I have never read the Canon manual all the way through, so having paid for basically the same thing, albeit a better version, I read it all on the train in about 30 minutes.
In doing so, I learned about the selective AF, AF to MF lock, Auto ISO rate of change, quick exposure comp., using Tv mode, custom menus etc, etc. All things I thought I knew, but rarely used in practise.
On the return trip I got all my new settings in order for a candid street style and took this shot of an attractive stranger across the aisle, which is my best to date under such tricky lighting conditions.
