How to set and lock crop size ratio in CS3?

Greetings, I'm fairly new to using Photoshop CS3 and had only been using the 6.0 version prior. I like to scan my Super 8 movies (in shorts) and crop them to size and sequence them as GIF animations. I've managed quite well with great results, but it would be rather easier if I could learn of a way to lock the crop tool to size for each frame without having to bounce with measurments. Does anyone know how to do this or if it is even possible? I know I need to sign up for some CS3 tutorials but for now I would appreciate a tip for this one particular dilema. Not sure if this is what you want, but when I crop, I just use the rectangular select tool with a set aspect ratio. I.e. 8x10 or 4x3. Then select, crop. Then I just use my resize photoshop action.

I tend to use the crop tool - select the whole image, then resize with the shift key held down to keep the same aspect ratio. You can then drag the crop area around too. Another idea could be to use the canvas size option (that can be recorded as an action and replayed for batch processing too).

I think David's suggestion above might be closer to what you describe though.
