I have a 1939 Summitar 5cm lens and i'm picking up a 1939 Leica II body to match. I've only seen serial number lists with years. Is there a way to tell the month so i would know if it's a pre-war body and lens?

I don't think they did it like that. Leica allocated blocks of serial numbers, cameras were made up, numbers were allocated not necessarily in precise order. During high production times you might find more than one block of serial numbers allocated in a year. I see Steven Gandy's list shows quite a number of allocations of serial numbers to IIs in 1939. By looking at the allocations and your serial number and doing a little bit of math you should be able to get a rough guess give or take a month or so.
