I like this film.
I noticed in handling it seemed quite a bit different from most others- it feels more pliable, more 'modern', if you will. Is it just me?

Thanks
For years my favorite was Tri-X but HP5 wins hands down now. Grain is much easier to handle and its tonality is second to none.

I wasn't clear, but what I meant by handling was how the film handled physically.
I love Acros, but for higher speed, I have to agree on the HP5+.

Processing was very easy and it scanned fine without post processing except for a very slight tweak on the Levels.
I've been shooting Acros too and love its rich creamy smooth tonality..

We're all light!
Since (gradually) getting back into the soup-it-yerself game nearly two years back (when I'm not messing about with XP2 Super), I've been fixated on HC-110 (never mind the unopened Diafine kit I've got somewhere around here). I like how it works with Tri-X (with the proper dilution and time). I like how it works with HP5+ (likewise). A bottle of HC-110 goes one hell of a long way. I don't think I'll be messing around with much else than HC-110 and Diafine, I doubt I'll be messing about with much else.

Give dilution h a go, Colyn. It gives some of the nicest HP5 I've ever seen. The highlights seem to open up a bit and print more easily. There'll be a bit more grain if that matters to you. Just double your dilution b times. Oh, and your HC110 will go twice as far.

amateriat,
I would be very interested to find out how you perceive the trade off between HP5+ and the XP2 - I mean if your workflow involves scanning and a digital print.
I know HP5+ has a wonderful tonality, but some find the grain (in 35mm) and the extra difficulty to scan not enough to "beat " the fine grain and easy scanning (against a slightly weaker tonality) of XP2... I tend to print from A4 to A3+ size if that helps...
Thanks

Hi ChrisN
Thats exactly my set up too! HP5+ in DDX, but im getting nothing like that result, my scans look very flat, dull and recently allot of grain, whats yer secrect?
I stick to 9 min at 20degC, with four turns every min.
Anytips on post scan workflow too, or do you print?
Thanks

Likewise!
HP5 in D76 1+1 was my first film/dev combo and probably still one of my all-time faves. I tend to oscillate between Tri-X and HP5.

The taboo combo: HP5 in Rodinal
(I had to try it after hearing so many people bad-mouth it)
Sorry about the bit on the bottom - I was really terrible at scanning when I did this. The scan does not do the print justice.
