HP5 yellow streaks

Hi,

I'm trying out HP5 in 120 (have been using Tri-X for a long time), and I'm getting yellow-looking negatives. The edges of the film seem clear (or have the regular color of the base) but the exposed area has a yellowish taint to it, not completely uniformly yellow, though. I just tried a roll in 35mm, just to check, and it is the same: clear edges around the perforation, and yellowish images. Does anyone know what may be going on?

My process is 8m in HC-110 dilution E (1+47), Ilford stop, Ilford rapid fix (~6-8m), wash, finally photoflo. Never seen this with any other film and have been using the same process for a very long time ...

Bad fixer, too short fixing time, not agitation enough during fixing, probably altogether.

Re-fix your film with good and fresh ammonium thiosulfate fixer (Tetenal Superfix or Ilford Hypam) for at least 10 minutes, and don't forget to agitate the tank regularly while fixing.

Interesting. I see that with Tri X more than any other film. There it means underfixing (usually that i need to mix a new batch as what I am using is exhausted).

Tri X seems more sensitive to that than any other film I've used. I'm surprised that you shoot primarily Tri X and are seeing it for the first time with HP5.

Yep, sounds like a fixing problem. I'd try fresh fix first, and you can certainly re-fix & wash any images affected even after they're dry.

Thanks! I usually try the fix with the film leader and fix for ~twice the time it takes the leader to clear ... Maybe I screwed up this time. I will try to re-fix.

My guess, too, is insufficient fixing. Going to be interesting when you report back with results from refixing.

Re-fixing did remove the yellow discoloration. Apparently, my batch of fix went bad. Thanks again for your help!
