I ordered 300ft of film for about $40, including shipping and handling.I usually get out 22 rolls of 36-exp film per 100ft roll. These are about 66 rolls of 36 exposure film. Storage place is compact in a 100ft tin case. I need to addabout $50/cartridge if I buy the metal ones. Used film cartridges are free.


No matter you I slice it, each 36 exposure roll will cost about $1.

Note that the film is outdated. I don't mind.

Do you know how much past-date the film is, Raid? That is a good price, if not too old.

BTW, for those who are not aware, this is rebranded Ilford Pan F.
 
My rolls are 2/2006, and I purchased them in August. Keep them in the freezer then roll up about 10 rolls then put the rest back in the freezer. Developed in Rodinal 1:50 and they look fine, not even a hint of base fog. I find the slower the film the longer past date it looks good, and the metal container probably helps. I only get about 18-19 rolls per 100 feet.
 
Ray: I just ordered/bought the film. Once I get the film I can post here the expiration date. With B&W film, and having the film in the fridge, being outdated should not be a problem for several years beyond expiration date.

No, you can't. I purchased a roll in May (for $12.99) and then 3 more rolls in August. I do belive that Ilford is no longer allowing anyone to sell their film as "private label" any longer so at $12.00 (or less) this is quite a bargain. With the Rodinal I ordered (also from freestyle) I have my film and processing cost at just around $1.25 to $1.50 a roll. I think the Rodinal, exposing for the shadows and slight under development is producing a nice tonal scale. (sorry for the repeat picture post. Summer I shoot, winter I scan and print... Chicago for ya.)

I have recently also bought 200 ft of Agfa APX 100 and many rolls of XP2 Super ASA 400. Now I am covered.

I just ordered 500 feet of this stuff this morning. Also 300' of both Arista II 100 and 400. I was running low on film so I decided to solve that problem. :)
 
It really is an awesome deal. I'm almost out of the roll I bought last year for $16.99 (it was still fresh at the time, this was the closeout price, exp. date is 2/2006).

I should have ordered more developer, though.
 
Pan F should last easily 10 years past expiration if kept cold without any problems. Don't worry about it.

A side question on film storage: should you put it in the ref or freezer, if you will not use the film for sometime?
 
I have been placing film in two ziploc bags to keep out moisture, and put the film inside the freezer. The film stays longer fresh in the freezer than in the non-freezer part of the refrigerator. I take out 20-40 rolls for quick use out of the freezer and cool the film.

Always freeze if you can. But don't accidentally leave youself with only rolls in the freezer when you need to go out shooting :).

Not that I've ever done that...

I've got 3 bulk rolls of Tmax in my freezer that expired 10/98.. the one I recently pulled out to load up is giving great results
 
I saw this deal on their website a few weeks ago but hesitated as although I've gotten decent results from PanF I find it too slow, especially since I feel it needs to be shot at 32 or so for best negs. For such a slow film it's certainly not significantly sharper than FP4 or Acros and being that slow I found I could not shoot it well except for bright outdoors (almost too bright and contrasty for good shooting), or shooting wide open, or for tripod portraits, the latter of which I might as well use medium format.
 
Rich: A very slow film is suitable for a Hexar AF with its 35/2 and limited max shutter speed of 1/200 or so. It's also great for open aperture photography. At such a low cost I am not too picky. I take way too many photos.

Got my film today, I love living only 60 miles from Freestyle! All 5 rolls were dated 2/2006.

I really should have bought some Rodinal or something, I don't know what I was thinking.
