HU: Canon 19mm F3.5 SCREWMOUNT

Raid has also posted a number of photos taken with this lens- he seems to have picked up the wide-angle thing pretty well for a self-avowed 50mm guy.

Cosmetic condition on the lens in the auction not great, but seller claims glass is Ok aside from cleaning marks.

I predict a sale price of $550

I love this 19mm FL lens more and more after having used it quite extensively. I do not use a lens hood with it and no filters. My VF is a 20mm Russar finder that does the job well.

Mark,
The 19mm lens has changed how I approach some photo situations. I sometimes switch between the 50mm and the 19mm lenses just to get different perspectives of the same scene. With the 19mm lens I keep on pushing myself to stand closer and closer to the subject, while trying to minimize distortion that looks not so nice.

Hi All,

RARE 19mm F3.5 original 39mm LTM:

I have the FL version of this lens, and it's GREAT. Comparable in every way to the 21mm F3.5 Leitz Super Angulon.

Thanks.

There are now multiple bids on the lens. The VF is a 21mm CV VF. The collectability of the 19mm RF lens [even though it is NOT RF coupled] will drive up the ending price. The FL version can be used on a Canon SLR and on a LTM camera, so it is a better buy.

I too have the FL version. It is a nice lens but heavy. When I use it with my film Ms I also use the Russian finder, though lately I have used it with the RD-1 12mm finder which comes to 18mm in 35mm.

I have this Vivitar lens; it is "OK" optically, but it is a retro focus design lens, so it is very different from the Canon 19mm 3.5 non-retor focus lens.

It used to cost about $65 brand new.

If you used the 19mm lens on the RD-1, which focal length perspective would you get?

do you think its of the same quality? i wonder who made this lens for vivitar?
edit i think ill buy it and find out

I think this one is made by Cosina. The earlier Viv 19 was made by Kiron. I had it in M42. Not great but usable at f8 if you needed to get wide for cheap.

The old Vivitar 19mm lens is very heavy and it was made from metal. The later design was lighter and less robust built. At f 8.0~11 it is a good enough performer.

Thanks.

Raid,

Why do you say that the Canon 19mm f/3.5 LTM (RF version) is not coupled?

Cheers,

The Canon 19 in LTM is rangefinder coupled- not that it really matters in use, given that DOF is enormous

Then I misunderstood the facts around the RF version.
My error indeed.

I thought that the RF version was not RF coupled.

I had the FL version for the Canonflex with the mirror lock-up. I bought it back in late '67 or '68 with the Lens Mount Converter B. I shot some of my best photos with it over the years but about 6 years ago it was stolen. Now I have a 21/3.4 Super Angulon and a 15mm VC Heliar. The Super Angulon hardly gets used. I love that 15!

Raid, you're probably right. The 21mm lens and the hood are barely used. I could get another 15 and shoot B&W and color with two cameras! I hardly ever shoot anything else these days. And still have a pocket full of cash!

I don't have any fancy Leica lens, but I have many users Leica and other brand RF lenses. I enjoy the variety of lenses for different perspectives and tastes.

Leitz 21mm F3.4 Super Angulons seem to be going for over $1000 these days, without a finder. I bought my FL Canon for a little over half of that, in mint condition, with a Canon 19mm Finder, original case, and original Canon caps. I already had the Canon A and B Converters, from other projects. I have also used this lens extensively, and I've never noticed the weight. The finder does want to drop off at the wrong times with my M2 (almost a disaster!) so I gaffer-tape it on, when I use it on that camera. Recently, it's been staying on my new motorized M4-2, and it's GREAT on that, and the finder fits it very tightly, no tape required. I really like to fire it one-handed, set it for hyperfocal focus, set exposure, and go! I love it, and will never sell mine. And it's the perfect complement to my other RF Canons, the 35mm F2, the 50mm F1.2, and the 85mm F1.5.
Somebody is really going to enjoy this lens.
