Today, I went to the Oakland Museum's White Elephant Sale. I had heard about it for years, but this was the first time that I have gone. It is sort of like a giant wherehouse sized garage sale.

They had a photo department, with a small assortment of M42 mount cameras and some assorted lenses, but what made me drool was the huge assortment of darkroom supplies that they were selling for a lot cheaper than Eb**. I got an old bakelite Watson bulk loader for a dollar that still had its box. An old Ganz speed easel (made of metal as opposed to today's plastic kind) still in its box for a dollar, too.

They had a whole row of large format enlargers (Omega D2's and a DeJur) going for less than a hundred dollars. A row of 35mm and 120 enlargers that were $40 or less. Tons of easels, trays, developing tanks, some timers and boxes of vintage shades, and rear lens caps going for a couple of bucks a piece. And I am not talking junk that someone has fished out of a dumpster

I forgot who, but I think that someone was thinking about jumping into 16mm movie cameras, and they had a mint 16mm B&H filmosound projector going for $40.

Tomorrow is the last day, admissions is free and if you can't get there the stuff that they can't sell will be put back on sale next year. Just google white elephant sale oakland to get directions.

After seeing an Omega D2 in person, I can only say that if I ever have enough space for a real darkroom a D2 will be first on my shopping list. 😀 A truly impressive looking machine.

I went to the Oakland Museum pre-sale last month where you $5.00 to get first chance at this Great Mother of all Bay Area Garage Sales. I bought a safe light for $3.00, a Canonet28 for $10 I left with 2 large bags of camera and dark room equipment for $30.00. There were allot of fixed lens RF's mostly canons of course; a nice QL17 w/flash for $50. Best deals are the used books, lots of books for great prices. If anyone is interested I'll get the info. for the next one.

I checked it out too. TONS of stuff dirt cheap. I did pick up an old AF35M for $1 and some darkroom odds and ends. I think my grand total was $6

That sounds great ! Now if I could find a ticket to the US below my pillow 😉

The classic section of a very well known Barcelona store is starting their own 'flea market' every thursday starting on 30th. According to their website all items will be in the 1-99 € range.

For sure it will be something worth visiting, I'm planning on being the correspondant for RFF on their grand opening 😉
