Yesterday, I sauntered into Manhattan to buy another lens hood for my new-to-me Contax Tvs. I say "another" because I'd already gotten hold of a somewhat chewn-up black hood from Adorama before finding out that the things were a bit more plentiful on the used market than I thought. (I also wanted one in silver. I'm so vain...)

Anyway, B & H had one, and even though it was twice what I paid at Adorama, it was (1) silver, and (2) in considerably better shape. Not 100% pristine, but neither is the camera. (Close, though.)

After getting my receipt, I turned to head downstairs for the usual pay-and-pick-up routine, when I saw this:

I'd actually been thinking about getting a belt pouch for the Contax, especially since finding out the OpTech pouch I bought for my Ricoh GR-1 was just a bit too small for to do the job with the Tvs. I went up to the display and pulled one of the Zing pouches of to try out. Perfect. Then I saw the price: at first, I thought is said $9.99, which would've been a pretty good mark-down. I asked a salesperson on the floor if this was a special-purchase price. He took the puch from my hand and looked at the tag. "Yes, we got a bunch in for a special price. $5.99 is pretty good, eh?"

$5.99...?

I looked at the tag again: Must have been a trick of the light, but sure enough, I'd misread it: it was $5.99. I ran back to the counter to add it to my lens hood purchase.

That's a true impuse-purchase price. I have no idea if this is available via their Web site, but you'll certainly find them in-store. At this price, I thought I'd pass this one along.

Pink is good! Chicks will think that you must be a very confident dude! Sensitive too! Plus think of the money you saved.

It seems to be an ideal match for a plastic autofocus auto exposure built in itsy bitsy flash camera with no neckstrap lugs.

Maroon! (Not you, Al, the pouch.)

My beloved Contax is a tad miffed at that remark...;)

I'd rather walk around town carrying a toy monkey than hiding a plastic Contax in a "maroon" belt pouch. It was Back Alley that decided it was pink.

Hey, I dig toy monkeys too. ;)

But the Contax is titanium. Really. Plastic wouldn't weigh this much. (That would be my Konica Lexio 70: lots o' plastic there, but not as lousy as some others).
