If you - like me - have difficulty keeping your hands still enough for shooting the DP1 DP2 DP3 Merrills this is a good combination to shoot with tripod.
On ebay there are some grips for the Sigma DP Merrill bodies. I bought from the seller flash-light-acce. I am unsure if all the generic ebay grips have the same dimensions and tolerances though. Delivery was about 3 weeks from Asia to Europe around Xmas time and it was sent "to sign for". It was well packed and came assembled. It fits the DP2M and DP3M perfectly but adds a bit of weight too.
Additionally I took delivery of a Sirui T-025X tripod with C-10X head and TY-C10 quick release plate from amazon.de. When removing the quick release plate the above mentioned grip with its Arca Swiss style "wings" fits the C-10X head perfectly - both vertically and horizontally.
The tripod is made of carbon fiber and with head (but without the TY-C10) weighs only 860 g. It also folds up very nicely and is quite short. There is no built in spirit level and the feet are (as far as I can tell) not interchangeable with spikes etc. That aside, I really cannot find anything on the tripod I wish were different. The whole design and quality of the tripod (knock on wood) is quite astonishing at this price level. It comes with some accessories including a bag - the bag is not padded though and is quite big. I think I will stick to bubble wrap when protection is needed. Nine months later...
The tripod/head combo can carry 6 kilos so even with the heavy DPxM files it is sturdy enough
The Sirui tripod also comes in a metal version called T-005 with weighs about 200 g more but costs only half of the T-025X. It is available in black, red and blue. It is good for 4 kilos.
Now I only need to add some sunshine and dry weather!
Cheers

good info, thanks. the sirui is on my list of things to get, good to hear another favorable review of it. gary has pointed out that the weight of a big grip is helpful to him for handheld stability, so the weight can be a good aspect i guess. i'm happy with the franiec grip so i think i'll stick with that for now.
