I've received a few nice deals through HU posts myself and have offered a few. Don't read 'em if they cause distress

I find that used sparingly, a HU can be very useful. And no, not everybody knows where to find anything. Special deals come along, typos in listings on eBoy, and not everyone has their finger on the pulse of the 'net. But as pbjbike mentioned, don't read them if they bother you. At least they self-identify with a HU or an OT. Easy to identify and avoid.

I have conflicting thoughts about the HU posts. On one hand, the poster feels that they are calling attention to something that someone on RFF may have an interest in and in so doing is helping.
OTOH, is it fair to someone who took the time and made the effort to find the same item through searching ebay? Should someone who doesn't make the effort reap the reward?
The last time I gave an HU was to alert members to what I felt was a rip-off. So many people complained that I was being unfair that I don't mention active ebay auctions on RFF for any reason..... only auctions that are finished. If I know someone who is looking for a particular item, I'll PM them only.
Each of us looks at things in a different light so I don't think there's any "right" answer..... only different viewpoints.

HU = Heads Up
As stated above - don't read if not interested. That policy would have avoided at least having this thread....

... judging by the amount of useless threads here, avoiding one single thread is not a big thing.....
and then I always thought HU is Hey You !!!! ... "heads up" sound sort of silly to me, but then I'm european so what do I know .....

I see now why it seems odd to you.
"Heads Up" is kind of an Americanism. Something we often learn on the baseball field. It's a call to alert.
But still - one can easily take it or leave it.

I picked up a Great Canon 7 with 50/1.8 lens for $220, some repair required, through a Heads-Up thread. I fixed it myself, in 45 minutes.
I also picked up a Canon 50mm F1.5 for $67 with a Heads-up thread.
If you don't like them, don't look at them.
And for those that have posted the Heads-Up that I have taken advantage of, Thankyou.

Same here. I have taken advantage of some good deals I was alerted to by other members.
In looking for something, I have also ran into good things that I did not want or need at the time, and alerted others.

HU: Summicron-DR 'for Parts' in Canada
HU: Summicron-DR 'for Parts' in Canada
ebay item nr. 230632425855
Seller lists it as 'for parts and repair' because it does not reach infinity...
Typical case of unawareness of the need of goggles to reach infinity.
Has rear coating marks, but a good price nonetheless.
