HU: Olympus ACE on dutch eBay

Just a quick heads up for whoever is interested: there's a nice Olympus ACE plus 4.5 cm on dutch eBay. A 8 cm is in another auction. Both are not too expensive.

:O never heard about this camera! I will google it. It looks extremely to my taste (i talk about the looks only, i.e. the unrounded corners and such) however the 45/2.8 lens is not so tempting...

It does not seem to be an outstanding camera, but it sure has great looks.

I've been tracking eBay auctions for the Ace and lenses. On the ePay dot com (US) site, I think they're going for too much money given the lack of information on how they actually perform and the likelihood that every example I've seen would need a CLA.

That said, I'm still tempted. My guess is the lenses were pretty good performers for their day, (produced in the late 50s, so I don't expect modern design and coating), and with the right film might be pretty decent.

The 4.5 cm lens is a 5 el in 4 gp so it should be really good?

Noel: I've seen some sample shots that looked promising, but as photos they weren't anything interesting, pretty much just grab shots, so it's hard to tell.

I noticed that kit, and it's tempting. It's a lot to drop on an unknown quantity, at least for me.

I ment in theory - the Olympus design even with '50 glass was conservative, the Kodak Retinas used four elements.

'Peter Loy' also has one for sale.
