Bingo, Stephanie... 😀 Though I'll admit to wanting the 35/2.8 first because of the look I've seen in joe's work.

Doug, is that a rare lens? I thought a 35mm Zeiss lens would be a Distagon instead of a Planar.

Sorry to have somehow missed this post earlier. Zeiss brought this Planar out in 1954 as a less expensive alternative to the Biogon. It is a Gauss type lens and much cheaper to manufacture than the Biogon design; the selling price was ~40% less but it never sold well, hence its scarcity. As with most collectibles quality takes a backseat to availability so the prices are high today -- for a lesser quality lens than the Biogon 🙂...so goes the collector market.
