I 22 aperture ring misaligned ?

HI

Too many I 22 s and other collapsibles as body caps , but I have just noticed that 3 of them have aperture rings which don't align with the markings - can even I , dee saster , adjust them ?

Hi Dee,

I think even you could do it...

there are 2 things holding the optics module in the barrel:
1.) a set-screw from side of the chrome barrel
2.) a large ring which can be unscrewed from the back after removing a light baffle. To unscrew this ring you'll need a lens-spanner or a thin needle nosed pliers.

Speaking of the optics module, I've got a rigid I-50
with a rear element that's infected with fungus. It doesn't
look like it's possible to remove the front-side optic to
get in there and clean things out but there may be a way
I'm not familiar with. Has anyone tried to do this with success ?

Sorry but I've no experience with rigid I-50... but first you should separate optics from the focussing mount. It should come out as one block containing all lenses and diaphragm. Then you can unscrew the front and the rear groups, and the front group can be further unscrewed to clean the space between the first two lenses. The rear group is glued.

If you don't want to risk ruining your lens, take a fine-tip markekr pen and make a new mark to align the aperture number with 🙂 100% safe unless you suffer on Parkinson disease and have shaking hands 😀 😎

Yes, I've had the I-50 apart. Remove the front elements by undoing the outer of the two rings at the front. The front face of the rear element can then be accessed (carefully) through the fully-open iris. Full dismantling isn't too difficult but this is probably the simplest way to gain access. The front group can be split by removing the inner of the rings, to get at all faces of the elements.

Both of my I-50s had fungus, the older one being worse. I got rid of it but it has etched the coatings slightly. Picture quality seems fine, however. Amusingly, I did fine a tiny flea inside one of the lenses, between the front and rear groups - entombed for 50-odd years presumably!
