I am about to buy an M8!

Raid,
I bought an M8 last October (eBay) and am loving it !
You'll probably need a hand grip (or/and a Thumbs up) plus a x1.25 magnifier ( for 50mm lenses and above ) and a quite a few 486 uv ir cut filters.
I'd like to try an M8.2 and the frame lines upgrade but never worried about the shutter noise and am enjoying the 1/8000 s .
Enjoy your M8 or M8.2 !
Jean-Marc.

You got a super deal on your M8. I will aim at $2000 plus warranty.

lol ironic enough.

I just bought a used M8 for 1600 couldn't resist the price tag , all though slight brassing on the edges, looks lovely though.

Well it was either the m8 or the x100 in black and for 100 dollars more I couldn't resist!

produces lovely raw images.

I say go for it under $2000

I'm one of the few M8 (actually M8.2) haters. Had one for about4 months and never liked it. Got rid of it and picked up the Fuji X100. Haven't looked back at all.

+1 for the thumbs up too. I got one after almost dropping my M8. The camera is a bit heavier than film models and the leatherette is very slippery. I got the thumbsup without hotshoe (for external VF), if I could get one again I would get the model with shoe built in.

All the best, looking forward to hearing your experiences

Hi all, new here, I picked up a used M8.2 in B&H 8+ condition and I absolute love it, I can see my D700 and X100 gathering dust, or maybe it is the new toy syndrome. I really forgot the flexibility of manual focus and it has awakened again my joy for photography, I suppose I paid a bit over the top $2700 but it does come with a 90day warranty. I have just one question, is the shutter on the M8.2 for a specific number of accusations?
Thanks

Congratulations! I bought m8 a few months ago and I love this camera. Intuitive and simple to use, the IR filter are not a problem. BW I shoot without filters. I use the shutter speed to 1/8000 and by the way, I love the shutter noise too.

I need to know whether a Leica warranty in Europe transfers to a buyer in the USA. Can this be quickly checked out before I do the buying?

edit: Leica USA said that warranties do not transfer from person to person.

Thank you for the tips, Dennis. I am shooting for a mint M8. There is one for $2500. Popflash has one for $2300 in 8.5 out of 10 conditon.

I am not at all an M8 expert but I could find several ones listed at least to be as good as the one you mention for some 400 US$ less just by looking at the largest Internet dealer (he started with books, if it's not clear enough who am I talking about). Are you sure you are planning to pay the right amount?

Please keep us posted when you get one, etc.
I use the plain old M8 and really enjoy it for my kind of shooting. The last firmware upgrade eliminated the one problem I had before, which was locking up when shooting in continuous mode (which is not a mode I actually use or need). I have mine set on "silent mode" (I think that is what it is called). I've enjoyed using my Leica and CV glass on it, and find the 25/4 on it a lot.
