I am getting a CV 50 2 APO. Are you too?

I don’t need another 50mm but this one was so different (on paper) to what I have that I jumped on it just to see if I prefer it to any of my other 50s. Likely need to sell a couple of them that I use the least. We shall see.

I have similar thoughts as yours, but I usually just keep whatever I have and move forward with the new lens.

2nd M 50mm APO Shipment Mid February

2nd M 50mm APO Shipment Mid February

ADMIN EDIT:

Due to high demand for the new M 50mm f/2 APO,
Voigtlander was not able to supply our full Voigtlander M 50mm APO order.

Our initial January shipment is sold out. We estimate to start shipping about January 27th.

We are accepting orders for the next February 5th shipment CLICK HERE
-- which is filling up fast.
Place your February order before that shipment is sold out as well.

Due to initial short supply,
the 50mm f/2 APO LH-13 hood
is sold only with the lens at this time

This new lens seems very popular.

I got mine today, haven't shot much with it yet. But from the few test shots I took on the way home it appears to be perfectly sharp corner to corner from f2. And very well corrected, APO indeed. Bokeh looks good too.

I got the tracking number for the lens this morning- should be in tomorrow, barring Post Office delays.

I'm looking forward to having it for the weekend.

I was notified yesterday that my lens will arrive today in the mail.
Which lens hood size does it use? Did you also order a lens hood with the lens?

Wonderful! I am looking forward to use this lens with the M10.

...
I sincerely wish you can travel in Italy with Robert to show him that new APO 50 mounted on your M10, and this, very soon, Raid.

It woiuld be nice but it could be dangerous for my wallet 🙂

...

If you go to Milan with Robert, I strongly wish you can go to Santa-Maria delle Grazie and see Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper. This is quite fantastic to be there and see that painting, if you think that there has been thousands of reasons why it should't be there any longer (chemical aging and fading of the color pigments used "a fresca", room used as a barn and a fire brigade storage space, WWII bombing all over the block, etc).

But, be prepared to be asked some questions there (see photo below I shot in that church with my Rolleiflex in 2015)... 😉

Great photo in a special place, well done with the Rolleiflex

The experience with a replica was new to most of us here. I am not excited about it anymore. Credit should always be given to the "inventor" or designer of the original lens. You should see the pride and excitement on the face of Peter Karbe as he went over many/all Leica lens designs in his presentation. You get extra respect for Leica.

Yes, I remember when we were in Wetzlar Peter Karbe spoke about lenses as if the were his best lovers...

...

I can see myself traveling one day again and using only the M10 and the APO 50mm lens.

An M10 and a good 50 or better said a 50 you like can be all you need to photograph...

Now, I think I do not need another lens, I do not need another lens, I do not need..., I do not... oh well...perhaps 🙂

Perhaps you will enjoy using another 50mm lens?
One day when it will be safer to travel to Italy, we will be then there.

Perhaps Leica should be making APO sex robots then?

Years ago I was offered what was essentially a new Leica 50 APO (factory 2nd with a cosmetic nick on the barrel) at about 35% off the then-list and grabbed it in trade for a 50 Summilux and Voigtländer SLR APO glass. The 50 APO or the MATE became my travel lenses. Occasionally threw in a 21 SEM if the expectation dictated it.

Assuming the CV is similar, you're in for a completely different experience than you're used to and don't expect to dial in anything but f/2 most of the time.

I travel with a Summicron 50 v5, Biogon 21/2.8 and Nokton 35/1.4. Since getting the Zeiss Distagon (thank you to everyone who posted pictures and recommended this lens) I'll be taking the Distagon instead of the Nokton from now on. Is the APO Summicron really such a jump from the already excellent Cron v5?

The new CV APO is really appealing, but since I just got the Distagon, I've hardly shot with anything else on my M9. But I'll keep an eye on the CV APO, I've often thought a M-mount version would be a good move from Voigtlander.

Now that the nightmare of the last 4 years is ending, I might be able to afford fun lenses again. This 50/2 APO is definitely on my short list. I wouldn't mind having at least one lens in my "collection" that just delivers technically excellent images (as opposed to "character" images)🙄

So dudes! Please share some images. I'd also like to see how the lens looks on your various cameras too....not just because they are likely to be pretty, but I like to get an idea of the relative sizes of things, as well as some indication of ergonomics.

Some of my other short-list lenses are CV lenses. Sorry to talk about another lens on the 50 APO thread, but I'm likely to get the new CV 21/3.5 instead of the Leica 21 SEM. Because I expect similar quality images and I will have money left over to consider the CV 50/2 APO instead of the Leica APO summicron 🙂 Get the idea? There are some non-CV lenses on my short list too, but....

So please share images raid and Brian (and Stephen).

PS: I'm going to rip off that stupid focussing stick on the CV 21/3.5 and attach a "real" focusing tab. Then I'll have a truly competitive lens against the 21 SEM.

My lens arrived to California today, and it is scheduled for delivery here tomorrow. I have to be patient 🙂

I am looking forward to be using this awesome lens.

Which lens hood type can be used with this lens, and must we get the CV lens hood or can we just use any lens hood that fits the lens?

I succumbed (I've been doing that a lot lately) and ordered both new CV 50 lenses a few weeks ago from the Australian importer, who happily is based in my city. I'll be like Sonnar Brian. I picked up the f1.5 yesterday and I expect the f2 next week or so.
I wish Cosina wouldn't do that 3-colour motif for their APO lenses. It's a bit gaudy I feel.
I have the Leica 50 APO Asph as well, so that will make for an interesting comparison.
