i spend about 800 bucks on a R2a + 35mm 2.5 Skopar and some assesories. after the first roll, i didnt find too much improvement in term of sharpness compare to my old Olympus SP or XA2.

however, the R2a is just TOO GOOD to be regreted about. but i do miss the money i spent on him. (it would be awsome if i can keep the R2a but get the money back)

so is there really just little improvement of sharpness between Olympus SP/XA2 and my new R2a? p.s. the roll i used on the R2a was Agfa 400.

Sounds like a mild case of "buyer's remorse".

A little post-Holidays GAS will cure that. Think of all the other gear you can buy once you get used to working for a living!

After all, you've only just begun.....

I feel for you ivzhao! One thing to look forward to - that GAS attack will have run its course in about 6 months. In the mean time you will be having the time of your life with the Bessa. 😀 😀

Your results will improve with 100 speed film IMHO. Ane close up and wide open shots will be superior to the XA2 because you can accurately focus instead of guesstimating distance! Try some transparancy film and you'll see the difference (using a projector). The XA's also have a fair amount of linear distorsion, so that will be gone. And you have auto exposure man! Life is good and better than before! Yer gittin off easy cause if you'd shelled out for new Leica gear with the same capabilities as your kit, you'd be out over $4K... Have fun with it, burn some film, no regrets. Also, work is good, builds character, right? Your money was better spent on gear than beer.

Cheers

I agree it will be better than the XA (not to denigrate the XA); the SP is very, very good, though. You have a body that can accept a ton of great lenses. If my SPs took interchangeable lenses, ooh, that would be lovely.

The benifit of owning a nice camera isnt in the 'sharpness' or some other aspect of the photo, its the improved ease of use. Im sure you enjoy the bright viewfinder of the R2a...

How are you comparing the shots? Scans viewed on the monitor, inkjet, wet prints? I ask because I very rarely see any difference at all between lenses when viewed on my monitor. It's when I get in and make an 11x14 in the darkroom that the differences are really apparent.

It's a nice camera though! I have one myself. You can always buy more lenses.. the sky is the limit for those things! Good luck!

Buyers' remorse... dang! It hurts, doesn't it? 🙂 I had it for a while after I bought the R-D1 but once I got shooting with it properly and regularly, I soon stepped over the remorse and enjoyed the camera. I still can't believe I spend 2200 euro on a camera but I'm no longer regretting it. Soon you'll feel the same. Enjoy the camera, the lens, the shooting. That's what counts.

however, the R2a is just TOO GOOD to be regreted about. but i do miss the money....
Well, if it's your major camera and you plan on using it a lot, then this is money well-spent---unlike a new Leica intended for fondling and perhaps Sunday shooting only. 😉
