I Auto-Up II -- Do you?

So that's what an Auto-Up does...
I've seen a few on ebay for the Olympus RF I own...at the time I wasn't sure what it did so I never bid on one...

Thanks for the info...

Very interesting thread, got me interested in the AUTO UP. I sometimes see these advertised for a particular camera and lens, and sometimes "for S, S2, S3... with 5cm f/1.4". I understand you need to buy one that fits your particular 5cm lens (f/2 or f/1.4), but can you use the device on an S and all subsequent models or do you need one for a particular camera model?

Hi Jan, I just tried my "AUTO-UP No.1 for Nikon-S2" on my SP and I could focus accurately. So I think any of the S series rangefinders with a 1:1 finder would work with it. Not sure if it would work with an S or earlier body though

One difference between the S2 and SP is that the focus patch is not in the same position. With the S2 the focus patch is in the centre, but with the SP the focus patch is lower. This tells me that my Auto-Up has been designed specifically to match the lower accessory shoe height of the S2.

Cheers,
Jon

Here's some photos to illustrate the difference.

Auto-Up on S2. You can see that the viewfinder window is inside the Auto-Up frame and the rangefinder window is not clipped.

Auto-Up on SP. You can see that the viewfinder window is more towards the lower part of the Auto-Up frame and the rangefinder window is slightly clipped. That's because the Auto-Up sits higher (no step in the top deck of the camera like the S2) and more towards the right when looking from the front (the SP accessory shoe is slightly more to the right than the S2 accessory shoe). The SP still seems to focus fine, but the focus patch is lower in the frame.

Here's a few more shots of the S2 with Auto-Up attached. Now I need to get some film developed and scanned to see how it performs.

Thanks Jon for posting these pictures, makes it very clear what to look out for. I look forward to seeing your close up pictures.

Could anyone who owns the S and S2 check the position of the rangefinder window on both cameras?
