The Series E lenses won't couple to the meter of the Nikkormat FTn. You'll need a Nikkor with the external coupling shoe.

True, as they come but it may be possible to fit a meter coupling prong (rabbit ears) if you really want to.

Which chip did you use? I'm curious how/where to buy, and does it come with a jig to get things aligned properly?

Legacy2digital never responded to my inquiries, so I did it myself.

The peleng8 version ("dandelion") is the one I used and it seems to be among the better out there. Peleng8 is in Minsk, Belarus and they got them to me in about a week. (Some sold on ebay from china are said to have some quality problems.) Leitax appears to be using Peleng8.

Oh, I almost forgot. You know what I like the most? It just says Nikon on it. No numbers, letters or rocket ship designations emblazoned across the front. I like that, very classy.
It is the only film camera I have ever bought that my wife has actually wants to try out (she bought my old 550D, stole my S95 and likes the Leica because of the engraving on the top).

The E series 50mm looks great value. If you're working your way through different systems, don't overlook Minolta if you haven't shot any before. My main system is Nikon but I will never get rid of my Minoltas. There is something about the 'look' of Minolta lenses that I've never seen in any other system. The Minolta 50mm f1.4 MD is - to my eye - the best 50mm lens I have ever shot.

I am using the same combo: FM + series E 50/1.8, cheap lens to buy and little akward to operate due to it's compactness, but optically first class. If you will try Minolta don't miss on 45/2. Another little, very compact gem (yet shaped better then nikon E) with extreme sharpness. I would say the sharpest of all rokkors I have.
