I can guess at Ringo's camera model but what about the lens ?

I say it does match the legendary Zunow speed lens, count the number of landings on the barrel and the illegible beauty ring script is very similar looking in length and style to what is on a Zunow f1.1 lens.

Look at the front rings.
I see one smooth ring and one with lines (sorry I don't know the name in english for it).

in Ringo's lens I see two front smooth plain rings.

the rest, yes is very similar.

In that grainy blow-up it is hard to tell if both raised landings on the lens are smooth or knurled or one of each.

I say that the lens matches the chrome plated super speed Zunow f1.1 lens, unless you know of another maker of period fast 50mm lenses that fits the visual description in those photos.

The super rare Nikkor 5cm f1.1 in LTM was mostly in black finish.

Looks to me like a European lens.


Lot of nostalgic fun doing this. Anyone looked at the book on Yul Brynner (a keen photographer) who had lots of camera gear. This one is easy (I am calling a Nikon F with a Nikkor 105mm f2.5.

As is this (an M2/M3 with a Summitar or early Summicron 50mm - more likely the Summicron perhaps given the close focusing distance though that might just have been for effect).

This is a little more challenging I think (The camera looks like a Pentax to me. As for the lens - I have no idea as if it was a Pentax there were squillions of M42 mount lenses available and I have not seen one like this - even the Pentax 300mm lens looks different from my recollection of it).

Ringo was one hell of a musician..and a good guy..
and into photo as well...
Those were great times..I did a video review recently of the drum stick bag he uses here..a small indi leather working co..Great Leather..probably as close as I will get to this icon of drumming...my name and his..on the same page..
