I put up an ad last night for selling my beautiful Contax IIIa that has been CLA'd and then "supported" by a Brian Sweeney certified Menopta 53mm/1.8 lens. I lasted about 24 hours, torn between my love for my camera and between the need to get some cash back so that I can spend it on the repair of another camera. In the end, wisdom prevailed.

I received input from two online friends on how to price the camera ($300-$350), and another advice on not to sell the camera.

How often have you "nearly sold" or nearly advertised an item just to feel remorse and pain ... :bang: :D !???

I cancelled my add a few minutes ago. What a relief that nobody sent an pm to buy the camera and lens.

it's only gear raid, cold metal and glass.

Joe,
If it is "only cold metal" then why do you keep on changing that cold metal for additional cold metal?

I will try to cool it [no GAS temptations] until further notice.
The IIIa is in front of me now; what a great looking majestic camera it is.

Having is not so pleasing a thing as wanting, it may not be logical but it is often true.

We are now taking this thread "where no other had thread has been before."

Modified Star Trek Saying!

Raid, I am a little ashamed of this, but I actually still own every piece of gear that I have accumulated in over 30 years, except for my Leica gear, which I sold as a set a few months ago. The result is a lot of stuff gathering dust, not being used, cause I simply don't have the time. Still, my Contax IIIa would be the last camera I would ever sell.

No need to be ashamed. I am sure that I have kept most of what I have accumulated the past 20 years or so. My Contax IIIa also stays home. I may fix up the IIa to keep the IIa company. :D

I should add that what we accumulate in SLR equipment is now worth very little. For example, I value my black Nikkormat FT, and you can imagine my shock when 48 hours ago a Nikkormat was sold directly for $27. The person who sold the camera is a well known camera repairman, so this $27 Nikkormat was CLA'd!
