I don't think I'm supposed to own cameras...

These last couple weeks I've had some TERRIBLE luck with my cameras. I'm starting to believe that my cameras get together when I'm asleep and plan to sabotage my ability to use them. Here's a quick breakdown of whats been happening:

-Christmas day, I'm shooting the family around the house with my Bessa R and the shutter jams. Its in Stephen Gandy's hands now, being repaired.
-Last week I dropped my Zorki 4K. It looked like it screwed something up inside the viewfinder. I got brave and tore it open, only to find out that nothing was wrong. So I started to put it back together. While the camera was open, my screwdriver somehow slipped and punctured through the shutter curtain. I still can't even figure out how that one happened.
-The day after the Zorki incident I got an Iskra in the mail. It arrived not functioning properly. So back it goes.
-Today I was on campus and had my Canonet GIII-QL17 with me. After a while I realized later I left it behind somehwere, and when I went back to find it, it was nowhere to be found! My Canonet was PERFECT, without a brightmark on it! It was recently CLA'd, and everything was exactly how it should have been. It was recovered a couple months ago with kid skin leather from Cameraleather.com and it had a brand new (just arrived last night) neck strap from Gordy. It also had an almost completely exposed roll of film in it :bang:

I think I'm just going to start keeping my M3 locked away in a safe that I don't have a key to. I've NEVER had these sort of problems with my cameras before, and now, out of nowhere, I have a whole streak of terrible luck.

Damn, Kyle! That sucks!

Maybe the campus has a lost-n-found?

I have a very nice safe. An M3 will fit in there perfectly. I promise I'll give it back once you're back on your luck again. 😛

I'm very very sorry Kyle. That is a serious downer. The Canonet is a very attractive camera, I'm, in this case, sad to say. I do hope some good soul found it and did turn it over to a lost-and-found by where you were.

I remember when I lost (well, forgot and much much later remembered I had left behind) an HP graphing calculator in a classroom. This was 10 years ago. I was so pissed. But that's different; somebody obviously saw the need to keep it. But now, how many people on campus say "yay! a film camera!!", unless they really know what they're holding?

I hope it turns out well.

I will check the campus lost and found (which is the campus police dept.) on Monday. I'm pretty sure I left it in the registrar's office, and nobody turned it into the front desk, so its almost definitely gone.

As far as people wanting to keep a film camera. I wouldn't doubt that whoever found it thinks they're holding on to a gold mine. They probably assume vintage=valuable and aren't interested in turning it in to lost and found. Honestly, I'm not too stressed about the money lost with the camera anymore, I'm just frustrated that I lost such a perfectly good camera. At least a Canonet is replaceable and inexpensive.

I just told my mom about losing the camera, hoping to get a little sympathy. Her responde was "why did you have your camera at school?" I told her I was taking pictures, she replied, "of what? UCR (my school)?" I told her I take pictures of whatever I see. She just said "you're weird." lol

Sorry to hear of the loss... to have lost so many cameras in so little time... ouch.

On what your mom said to you, I get it from my entire family... my kids, my wife, my sister, my parents... I just got used to it.

Yes, it sucks. However, there is a bright side to the losses. The Canonet and Zorki are both inexpensive, so I'm not out a huge sum. I paid nearly nothing for my Zorki, and it worked perfectly. I've already got its replacement coming in the mail. The Bessa is under warranty, so its getting fixed for free. Hopefully I don't do anything so careless with a more expensive camera.

Keep thinking on the bright side. Still I'm sorry to hear your story....

Just teasing a bit. 🙂
You are not the first to leave a camera behind. It always hurts the pride and the wallet.
No worries, I thought it was quite funny. I laughed really hard at the original link rover posted.
