I sold my Canonet so I could start buying lenses for my Nikon FA.:( :( :( :( Too late now to get it back. If anyone is interested and lives in PA it should be at the Ritzcamera in Montgomery Mall, just off of Dekalb. Hurmmmm.

Don't feel like a traitor, just think of it as recycling the Canonet back to one of us. : )

that's ok, we all need to do what we need to do...
...but you could have offered it here first, to one of us.

but we forgive you!
lol

now, what lens do you plan to buy first??

Already bought a Nikon 50mmf1.8 series E, love shooting with it. My Nikon FA with this lense mounted is small, but not quite as small as my Canonet. Then again I get TTL flash metering, a wider range of shutter speeds, interchangeable lenses, and more AP, P, and metered manual, so I shouldn't complain.

That's fine, don't worry about it right now... only, sorry, but I must side with joe: it would have eased your pain to offer it here first.

At least you'd know it did find a good home! :)

So this is the Nikon gear you're raving about in the popphoto forum... I read part of your thread, but my Nikon knowledge is still very limited. In any case, if you like it and you're hooked, more power to you. Enjoy it!

I gotta second Francisco on that YBP :)D ). I have never owned nor used Nikon, but there are an awful lot of happy and satisfied users out there, so enjoy with them.

I am still puzzled over the expression "I feel like a traitor..." Is that from guilt about prefering SLR over RF, not offering the Canonet here first, or an unrelated act of selling State Secrets?

Let me come clean about this: while I like and use RF cameras, I am no means hostile to or disdain SLRs or any other type of viewing system. One of my favorite cameras is a Rolleiflex TLR. I love looking at pretty pictures on the little viewing screen. Never once did I consider that kind of ogling an act of treachery. Under this great tent of photography is room for everything except for the Holga which is a piece of s__t.

It is easy to form a relationship with one's photo equipment, of course. I do it all the time. After years of this I have concluded that whatever emotions expended by its operator, the camera doesn't care one bit except for some models, mostly discontinued by now.

That said, one of the things I like most about Nikons is that they have no personality. Using a Nikon is, for me, like picking up a hammer or screwdriver, tools that I seldom check for brand name. Nikons just do their job and can be then put away so you can drool on your Leica.

More I feel like I traded in an old friend, the Canonet was my first 35mm camera I actually used. It just hadn't been used in over six months.

When I bought my Bessa R 2, I thought the Canonet was on the shelf for good.

Hasn't worked out that way. My basic non-summer (avoid heat damage) in the car gear is:

Bessa R 2 with artsy B & W Tri-X. ( About 30 % of total shooting volume.) Great for dull winter days.

Pentax SLR with 35mm to 105mm macro zoom, with Velvia 100, (about 20% of total shooting volume.)

Canonet with Fuji ISO 100 print film, (about 50 % of total shooting volume.) Family holiday birthday stuff, always camera.)

I have a nearby Walgreen's that does a SUPERB 1 hour photo. (Knock on wood.)

The low profile of the Canonet REALLY improves my quality. Other people notice it, I can't explain it, but it's real.

I'm not unemotional about my gear, but I've learned enough discipline to reach for the right tool.
