Twigs: here is how you can test your developer:
clip off a piece of film, and let it sit in a cup of developer (in a lit room) for the normal developing time, then put it in the fixer.
black = developer is good
clear = developer is bad
I figured this out after loosing a batch of 2 rolls to some cross-contaminated diafine.
