I got it ! I got It! M3 M3 M3!!!!!!

alright !!! fire up the ceremonial fires of celebration !!! ...it is great to get "the camera" of one's dreams/yearning/etc ...enjoy, experiment, enlarge ---repeat as often as needed to treat the various symptoms of ' photographis consumptivitis ' ... but hey, who wants/needs a cure when the symptoms can be treated like this ???

f/8 and be there !!! bon chance !!!

You may want to start practicing these phrases that will come in handy while using your new M3:

  • "Be patient, I'll get this film rewound in another couple of minutes and then we can go on shooting."
  • "Excuse me, you people down in the front row...? Does anyone see my takeup spool down on the floor? It's a little round thing that fell out of my camera and rolled in your direction..."
  • "Just a second, I want to use flash for this shot... I just need to find this little adapter so I can plug it in... I know it's in here somewhere... on second thought, available light is so much more artistic..."
  • "No, sir, I'm sure my camera is NOT made by Panasonic, even though yours has the same name on the lens!"

... well, when you've just scored an M3, you have to be prepared for some ribbing! Have fun...

Welcome to the dark side. You know, you've ruined yourself for using other cameras. There's nothing quite like a Leica.

I also freely concede that a RF is not the best tool for all photographic situations.

I don't mean to snobbish with this. I fully understand that it is the photographer and not the equipment that is important, but many people do feel that there is something special about Leica. I would be interested in knowing if Skinny senses a difference.

(I remember when a member named snaggs first posted to this forum, he was quite irate about the Leica mystique. Then he got one and to say that the nature of his posts changed would be an understatement.)

There are other cameras that also feel "perfect". The Canon P, vintage Contax RF's, Rolleiflex TLR, Hasselblad, and Rolleiflex SLR's, to name a few. These cameras are well designed and well built, and feel perfect to many people.

I really don't want this to become an equipmet brand war!

Equipment Brand War? I can play a game of Chess with Nikon SLR's filling the roll of Pawns. Both "Black and White" side.

Congratulations on the M3.
