I have too many 50mm lenses. Do you too?

I've had a Canon 50/1.4 EOS not too long ago, and a noctilux. I now have a 35/75 but will probably not be able to resist getting a 50/1.4 asph at some point. I'm dreaming of a chrome version! That would be ultra-uber.

Hello:

There are strong partisans of Canon RF lens on these fora. Is your Canon F2.8 50mm the type 1 or the 11/111? My type 1 is excellent with lots of pop.

Frank
Hi Frank: I'm afraid I don't know the types of Canon 50/2.8. How can I tell them apart? Does your 50/2.8 give you nice results? Is it similar to an Elmar?

> Brian- why do you have 5 Nikon RF's?

I do not have 5 Nikon RF's. Those are the just one without 5cm F1.4 lenses on them. They gravitate toward me. The last was a Nikon M w Sync and 5cm F1.4 lens. $30 at an antique store.

I only own 1 rangefinder 50mm; and it doesn't come off. (Vitomatic 11b) :(

I'm actually looking for a LTM 50

canonrangefinder.com, the creation of Peter K is the best on-line resource for identifying Canon RF lenses.

Its kind of a compulsive mental disorder. You start off with one and its great lens but you need something faster so you get another but you dont sell the first cause it has a different character. Then you see a third and you think I wonder how it performs against the other brand you have of the same speed. It has lower contrast better for B&W even though you havent shot B&W for 15 years but you never know you may get back into again one day. Then the 4th comes along but it was so cheap you cant pass it up. Then the 5th one takes the filter size of most of your other lenses you have to get that now dont you? Number 6 is the same vintage of your Classic rangefinder you should have the classic 50mm that matches that now shouldnt you? Jim Bloggs claims that the Russian Sonnar Copy he bought for 15 Bucks is as good as the genuine Zeiss one, no that cant be right better get one to see if hes right. But then you start to question yourself, even ask on your favourite forum if they think your loosing it only to find out that some have twice as many 50's as you have. Solution, start a website showing a comparison of all those 50's for the benfit of all those not sure at what 50mm lens to buy. Its to benefit the people after all its charitable! Someone writes you and asks if you have tried a 50mm lens not listed on your site, hmmm better get that lens so you can give an honest and informative answer after all! "I tell you I am sane your honour, the Noctilux was worth every cent, the kids didnt mind not eating for a few days and getting their christmas presents in January when the sales are on." Thats an unusual jacket your putting on me do you have one with pockets for some 50mm lenses?

Now that's a good idea. I was considering taking photos of all my rangefinder lenses (not just 50mm) and put them online somehow with a description of how I value each lens or not.

Why do I not have this kind of luck? I've done work on the Nikon F and Contax RFs, so its only natural to get a Nikon RF fixed up like new one of these days...if only I could find one for cheap ;)

Paleoboy had just profiled most of us!
