Well, I sent you an email right after the other person did on your original post to trade the bessas for a G2. I never received any kind of response.

I only shoot digital, DSLR and rangefinder. I can appreciate the lure of the Nikon: I have a D2x, used mine today for the first time since November, because I needed telephoto and zoom-framing, and I admit that the feel was very good. Nikons are right there with Leicas on ergonomics. But these cameras are beasts. Without checking, I'd say a D2x with a typical zoom and a RRS right-angle bracket is heavier than most 4x5 LF cameras, and just about *any* 35mm film camera -- and it's lighter than a Canon 1DSII. And it really slammed home to me how much frontal area they have, and how people *look* at you when you're using one. (I was shooting in a waterfront park.) I can put my R-D1 and seven lenses in a briefcase...

I can't wait for the digital M. The R-D1 is good, but I can't wait for the M to arrive.

Failing eyesight is a hard thing for any aging photographer. A DSLR with good AF can really help with this. The very best with your next chapter of photography. I know it wasn't an easy decision for you.

Many photographers are at the same cross roads. I just picked up a small consumer DSLR, a D50. So, I can see the merits. I love the metering for one, but I'm not too sure about the look. It will be hard for me to abandon the look of the old Tessars, Elmars, Jupiters, Sonnars and Summicrons. Therefore, I intended keep the traditional darkroom set up for film based black and white, while also putzing forward with medium format color photography.

And to GeneW, unless it is large format sheet film, there is nothing better for aging eyes than examining a 6x9 color positive. Personally, if I had the space for a more ambitious darkroom, I going with a large format camera.
