I just bought a Leica M-P

I'm finally upgrading from my M8. I love the camera (it was with me when I proposed to my wife, on our honeymoon and many, many more fun adventures) but with the wedding and portrait photography I do, I want a camera that can handle low light better and has a quieter shutter. I bought a used copy from Popflash. Should be here tomorrow! I cannot wait to test it out. Are there any quirks to the camera that I should know about?

I freaking love it. Just downloaded the first set of images. It's so much better handling than the M8. Noticeably heavier, but I don't mind at all. What a wonderful camera! Full on honeymoon phase, lol

Congrats on your new M-P. Leica is one of the very few camera companies who seem to be able to build a digital camera without going off the deep end by including too many menu choices.

Yep I got that one. The dings are hardly noticeable.

As an update I have to do some more testing. I think the rangefinder is slightly out of whack. The camera seems to be back focusing. It's the worst with my 90mm, but I've seen it with my 50mm lenses, 35 and 28mm as well. I'm waiting to hear from Popflash to see if they'll cover a trip to my local tech for adjustment. Taking some more photos today to rule out user error.

a ramble...
I had one ... it's a lovely camera. It was getting a lot of use until I bought the SL. The SL came in and I had pretty much stopped using the M-P (and everything else...!). Nine months later I was debating whether to sell the M-P, the M-D 262 came out, and for reasons even I cannot entirely fathom I bought an M-D. And that revived my delight in using the M ... I have to say that the ergonomics won out over features and everything else with the M-D: Every time I pick it up, I like it even more. It's a much more limited camera than either the SL or the M-P since it has no LCD, no Live View, no menus, etc etc. It feels like my M4-2 with a meter and without film. And that's why I love it. In the end, the M-P became part what I sold off to acquire the SL90-280 lens.

The SL is my 'do-everything' camera that has everything I'd ever need or want to do any kind of photography the might catch my fancy. The M-D is my M, period. It's now my favorite M of all (I do still have the M4-2 for film) and almost my favorite camera. What is my favorite camera is a most difficult thing to say...

Sorry for the ramble. I've been thinking about this stuff too much. Need to go shooting more. 🙂

Thanks! Just did an engagement shoot. Just set zone focusing on lenses with the M-P, used the M8 for longer lenses with my 1.25 magnifier. It'll be interesting to compare the files from the two cameras.

Shoot went well! It was really easy to integrate the two cameras as well. I was pleasantly surprised how well the rendering matched up between the cameras. Not a lot of post work needed to match the vibe of either.

Well the rangefinder slipped out of alignment again 🙁. Sent the camera back for a refund and will be on the hunt for another. Probably a regular m 240 since I doubt I'll find another M-P in my price range. Such a shame, it's a wonderful camera.

Yeah sounds like something is wrong. The rf on my M240 has never been touched in the years that I have had it, and has been spot on.
