Wow guys, thanks for all the comments! Maybe I was just expecting too much from the rangefinder patch brightness compared to my Bessa... But in reality, it's great. I was definitely over-reacting a bit in my original posting.
Thanks @Melvin for the info about how the top scratch got there. That was my guess, but it makes sense. Interesting. I'd like to learn a bit about the history of this camera. I feel like if I understood a bit of the history of this camera, it would put me more at ease. I don't know why. It just appeals to me for some reason.
I am really glad that all the shutter speeds work. It was a lot of money for me to spend at the moment, but right now I'm thrilled to have a working Leica, and pictures will be posted soon!
Hopefully this will last me for years to come!
