I just stole a Mamiya 6...

Well, I went into my local camera shop on Friday and the guy I know there asked if I was still interested in the Mamiya 6 they were trying to sell. I said I was, but couldn't really afford it. Well, they made me an offer I couldn't refuse... He offered to sell me the Mamiya 6 and the 75/3.5 for $1000 cash. Oh yeah, they threw in the 50/4 for that price as well. :D They had to hold it for me until today, as I didn't have the cash for it that day, but its in my hands now. I had to borrow money from my dad, but I simply couldn't pass up the deal. Now instead of borrowing a Mamiya from my buddy, I can use my own for my next photo project. There are some scuffs on the bottom of the body and a couple other signs of use, but everything else looks great.

I've already burned through two rolls of film.

Anyways, just had to share my excitement.

Also, does anyone know where I can find a lens hood for the 50mm lens? KEH has one, but they want $47 + shipping.

Wow, Kyle

it'd sure be nice if something like that came around for me...
it'd sure be nice if I had the ability to drop 1K just like that...
yeah, that'd sure be nice.

Kyle:

Congratulations, it's a great camera. I have all three lenses, but end up never using any but the 50. It's so sharp you might cut yourself. Be careful! ;)

You might try George Ury. He's a pretty good guy, and will often have odds and ends like that. The other person you might check is Manfred Schmidt, although he tends to have earlier models. I've done business with both and can recommend them.

Kyle,

I am glad you have it. I was talking to Tim at Empire Camera about the camera and he offered the same price. I was asking for a few photos and it took a few days. Then on Saturday he was still saying he was waiting for the seller to get back to him. Guess he was really waiting for you to deliver the cash. I wish he could just tell me the truth...

Use it and take good photos. This does sound like a good price to have.

So you had talked to them? The guy I talked to said they hadn't had any interest in it in months (aside from me). I'm very sorry, I figured you never called them. I didn't mean to swipe it out from under you.

Well, as I said, I had to borrow money from my dad (actually, I had to borrow the better half of the $1000) in order to get it. However, I knew it was too good of a deal to pass up.

Joe,

I got really lucky! I went in there for a couple rolls of film and ended up with a killer deal. I still can't believe it.

Don't worry about it, Kyle. There is always another camera somewhere.

The best part is that you have a great camera now and use it as you are doing...

Congratulations. Now you have great lenses on an excellent camera. Enjoy.

The Mamiya 6 (or 7) is my future camera goal. One day, I will have cahs and the will to spend it like this.

Excellent for you. The Mamiya 6 is one of my short list cameras especially since I love the square format. I see KEH has a bargin graded 150/4.5 for $225 :angel:

Enjoy and lets see some pictures!

I saw that. Its tempting, but I have to repay my dad, and pay off my credit card (the bulk of which was used to pay for my last camera acquisition :bang: )

Congratulations! Re: the lens in KEH, I would say: go for it. If I were in America, I'd go crazy with KEH.

Kyle, as a long time user I'd take it easy on acquiring the 150 for a while. I hardly use mine. You have the two key lenses. Those two will be taking 90 percent of your shots in my opinion.

What is the equivalent focal length in 135 for the 50/4 ? I have been using the 75 for years but I sometimes could use a wider lens on that camera.

You did very well in this, Kyle. While i was out looking for medium format rangefinders in the Los Angeles area, a salesman at Samy's Cameras tried to sell me a Mamiya 6 + 75mm for alot more than that - and it was beat up good. They even tried to sell an RF645 with misaligned VF for $1600 (just the body and 65mm).

I'm not sure what the exact equivalent would be, but if you want a wider lens for the Mamiya 6, your only option is to go with the 50/4.

According to my handydandy focal length chart, the three are:
50mm = 32mm on 135
75mm = 48mm on 135
150mm = 96mm on 135

Hope this helps.

Eh, in the end you'll eventually be paying for all of it. Still, great for you that you got such a deal.
