It is hard, for me too...:bang:
o.k. I go for this because it was very hard do do....
..I was in Bilbao to do some picture to sell or not!...
..the first problem was, that I met some realy "big" photographer ( Magnum, Stern (German Magazin)...and I did a small talk to them..they are staying all at the right side of my picture (at the Water)...
.they all got a job to do a good picture ..but I was for Holliday there, but with the idea to get a nice picture...
..but I was more frustrated not to have a Magazine behind me...:bang:
..so I went on the bridge with my Super-Angulon and did this picture without Tripod, holding the camera at a pillar of the bridge.....
..at home it needs 2 weeks to go in the Darkroom..but I was happy..this was a big picture!..I got a little price of Leica...

This is the best picture for me, because this house is the most photographed house of europe..(at that time of the world)..and my picture can stand it in my oppinions..
.
Regards,
Jan

... likes film again.
I don't have a best picture and story for it ... unfortunately.
It is hard to decide, what is the "best" picture.
However, I like your photo of the Guggenheim museum for its contrast and composition. It has someting ... dramatic ? Thanks for sharing it, Jan.

My best picture ...
My best picture ...
... well, some of my friends like it and I had it in a small local exhibition. The story behind this photo is simple. I explained to a friend the idea of taking photos with a RF camera, having presetted the focus and exposure. Then, when you see something interesting just make a small ajustment of the focus and shoot. While we were walking I saw her umbrella in the light of the car and just took the photo, while walking ... That's why it is so blurred....

Hello maddoc,
I think you have a picture your heart is hanging on.
I do not like a olypic game here, I like to see pictures with "soul"..not allways the best lens the best, the best...we do pictures because we like to do it...

Jan

Leica M Shooter
In June of 2002 (nine moths after 9-11) I visited Liberty Island. The statue was closed to the public and under armed guard. This lucky shot was captured at the face of the platform with the guard standing on the edge.
Leica M6, 90mm Summicron.

BUT... most "big" photographers would not have the luxury of being able to spend two weeks in the darkroom getting the picture exactly the way they wanted, as you did.
They would have to be content to make the picture the client wants, then rush off to make the next picture for the next client...
It's a fine picture, and if the "big" photographer could see it, I'll bet HE would envy YOU, for being able to spend so much time concentrating on making just one picture exactly the way you like. There is a lot to be said for being an amateur!
(PS -- If you like pictures with stories, most of my photos in my gallery have stories with them...)

Do not make the mistake thinking my pictures are made in the darkroom..
and do not make the mistake thinking, I do not need money to get my kids going on..
there is no manipulation in the picture...
I have 100 prints I did by my self for my book "Bilbao"....at I did it in 10 Days..because I do not have the money to gif it to a good printer...
The "big" photographer never print, they do pictures .

If you do 10.000 prints a day...and I talk handmade B/W prints....at the time I leaned the job as "Photographer" for 3 years..you are not getting problems printing normal pictures..
