i Love C-Sonnar 50/1.5

I just bought the lens a couple of weeks ago. This is my first outing with it other than a few "play" snaps around the house. Unfortunately I haven't been that active recently so I don't have must experience with the new lens. But I've fallen in love with it in a very short time. Like all Zeiss lenses, it has some magic dust inside.

This was done with the C-Sonnar on an ARTRA close focus adapter using a Nikon Z6. Heaven....

It was only when I got this lens that I understood a lens has more than just maximum aperture and its focal length. It led to my understanding of other lens characteristics in my own and other lenses. I agree the magic dust is strong in this. Lighter, smaller, cheaper and more interesting than the 50 Lux ASPH I cured myself from wanting. The magic is still there at f5.6 certainly.

Exactly why I love Sonnars! - they have magic at more than wide open. I photograph for a couple weekly papers and I'm usually in the f/2.8-5.6 range as covering events where subjects don't stop and I want context in the background. My lineup includes: the Zeiss C 50mm/1.5 ZM of course, a Carl Zeiss 90mm/2.8 Contax G converted to M-mount, a Nippon Kogaku Nikkor-P.C 10.5cm/2.5 LTM and a Leica Tele-Elmar 135mm/4.

The C-Sonnar has the Christie seal of approval.

After reading so many reviews saying it's not sharp, I was apprehensive. But the main objections were the focus shift and .9 meter minimum focus distance. Neither of which really mattered to me since I'm not using a Leica and there are adapters that allow closer focus when using mirrorless. I really love this lens.
