Some silly fads never go away, Celine Dion for example, and some keep coming back, the Volkswagen Beetle and bell bottoms.
It isn't necessarily bad to be a silly fad. (I made a rhyme

I bought a few of these old cameras for a relatively low price, but I'm not sure digital has a lot to do with it. They're just old cameras.

The best camera is one that still works!
You won't love digital quite so much when it finally kills off film Frank ... your twenty five dollar OM-2 won't be much use to you then!

Heh Frank - wanna swap that gorgeous OM for my DSLR? How 'bout both of 'em?!
What a superb buy. Congratulations.

Just to add a little perspective, I bought a mint OM2n in 1985 for $60.

I guess my wife will slowly starts to hate digital for the very same reason - I tend to get too much analog stuff as it is getting cheap ...

Congrats, Frank. I'm waiting for digital to have a similar effect on Minolta XD11 prices, but I haven't seen it yet...

I love digital because it means I can shoot both film and digi whenever I feel like it...and more importantly, if it weren't for the affect on film camera prices I doubt I'd ever have bought my first Leica

OurManInTangier -- well said. I agree 100%.
In addition, I blame digital photography for giving me a painful bout of GAS. I would have never filled my house with dozens of old camera bodies and lenses if it weren't for those pesky digital cameras!

That's what my boss told me.
In 1986.

Interesting turn of events: The seller responds to me that the camera has developed a shutter problem and he doesn't want to send me something that doesn't work. I wrote back saying that I'd like it anyway, that I'll have it repaired. (I'm thinking he realizes that he asked for too litttle. It was a $25 Buy It Now.)
I was also thinking before posting my deal on RFF that I should wait until the camera is in my hands before talking about it here, and not jinxing myself!

So are we to assume that you retract your praise for digital?

maybe a case of seller's remorse on the seller's part

Seller's remorse is what I'm thinking.
Gumby, I still love digital even if this particular deal doesn't happen because of the other classic film cameras I've bought recently for cheap:
Nikon F3, Contax RTS, Nikon F plain prism, Nikkormat FT3

With you on that: even if not as cheap as your deal above, I'm thankful for the OM-4, Diacord, 645 and an FE2 and F100 that came my way. It's a bit crazy but I'm enjoying them - and I also thank digital. Although we should give some credit to autofocus too.

You could still buy Kodachrome in 1986 ... and get it devoloped damned near anywhere!
Your boss was a smart guy!

It may have been the international shipping that made him look for a way out. He was an eBay seller with no history/experience. I gave him a friend's US address for shipping, and said that the problem may simply be a battery and that I would still want the camera. He was okay with that. Things may turn out all right after all.
