What a Wonderful World
What a Wonderful World
I really like seeing these photos of your daughter. I said this before in this thread, I know. But I really miss when my daughter was so young like this. Life is different when you have a daughter this age--at least for me.
Everything is interesting and fun for them. You can see it in your daughter's face in the photo in which she faces the sun with her eyes closed. You can see it in the shot in which she is pointing at you on the path. Or in the photo in which she's trying to balance the small stick on her head to better understand gravity, but also to see how fun it would be to have a stick balanced on her head--when did we last do something so simple to see how fun it would be? You can see her brain processing information as she squats down on the pavement and studies a leaf. Sorry to be Zen or Franciscan like in a photography forum, but it's like she is in conversation with that lone leaf on the ground, like they have a friendship and a kinship. It reminds me of the song that Louis Armstrong sang, "What a Wonderful World":
In some ways this is what we try to accomplish, at least some of us sometimes, in photography: to show how wonderful is the world, to remind us of that.
More than all of this, I envy the way she sleeps so peacefully without disturbing dreams in which she has to work through emotional problems of the day, and I envy the way she lies in bed and looks at you taking her picture. She knows that she is safe and loved with you and her mother. Most of us spend our whole life trying to find that level of peace again. I miss my daughter at that age. When you have a child like that, you can see that peace in her and share in it, because you help to create that protected world for her.

I hear babies cry. I watch them grow.
They'll learn much more than I'll never know.
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.
