I love my Nikon F2

In another post, I mentioned that the meter, that big ol black box on top of the body, was ugly...yep, it is. But, I have that thing singing now and it works perfectly now for 100% of the time.

The F2 is huge! It is solid! It is vintage Nikon! It is so huge it has it's own bag now.

Just wish I had the triangular prism but they are soooo expensive. Then, I think it would be just about perfect!

I have the same camera with that DP-1 light meter, I purchased it new in 1974-5 (?). While it is a bit of a handfull, I wouldn't call it huge.
I would like to find the non-metered prism DE-1 finder too, but it has been hard to find one in good shape at a reasonable price.
I have quite a few Nikkor lenses for it: 35, 50, 105 & 135mm and a couple of Vivitars (24 & 70-210mm). I love this camera and will never part with it, my kids will probably donate to a thrift store when I'm gone.

It is a beautiful solid beast. I owned 5 F2 over the years. I still have the Titanium version, and the F2S. I read somewhere that the F2 was the last of the hand-built cameras. They sit on the shelf for years and still work without any CLA.

I bought mine in 1974. Still using it. What a marvelous camera! It probably weighs as much as my bag full of u4/3 gear.

I sent it to our head bartender a few years ago for a complete overhaul. It came back as good as new.

That's great, it may even outlast you. I took my first F2 camping, hiking, excavating, and all things a college student did in the late 70s, and the F2, while banged up, still works. I just gave it away to a fellow RFF because he needed a manual camera.

Nah, got the 50mm 1.8 and is the only lens that will fit it that I have at the moment. Oh, and the Soligor zoom.

The camera is really working well now that I got the meter squared away. I only wish I could develop my own and scan it.

Dave, I bought my DE-1 (the plain prism for the F2) a couple of years ago for $45. I think it's mostly the F prism that's so expensive now.
EDIT Just ran the search on ebay and they're all over $185! What a difference a couple of years can make!

I invariably buy a Nikon F or F2 photomic and then want to buy the plain prism.

What I've found is "be reasonable about the price and then be patient. One will come at the price I want".

So far, I've been able to find them at a reasonable price (i.e. less than $100), in decent condition.

It feels very special.

F2 has the best film advance of any film camera I've ever used. Fabulously bright and beautiful viewfinder too.

Love my F2 to bits too. The F2 along with the F are such no nonsense cameras that gets the job done (with lots of enjoyment factor to boot).

The F2 was one of the cameras I longed for over many years. Finally got an F2S last year, but I don't use it enough. Too many other cameras to fix, and shoot, and experiment with at the moment to give it some proper attention. That, and I haven't gotten a B screen for it yet. But I realy like it for it's improvements over the F. It just feels perfect in the hands.
