I love my R3A with nokton 40mm f1.4

Its light, doesn't take much space, and very good all over lens. I wish it had slighty shorter minimum focusing distance, but i like this lens.

this was the first roll, when i got my bessa

(don't mind smth. on the nose and glasses(in the background) that's my scanner's fault)

I like the photos. The Nokton 40 looks like anoter A+ lens. I have the 50 and I love it.

This is my most used combination this summer. I'm not sure why as I have four Leica Ms and a wide selection of lenses to choose from. I think it may be the size, the lovely lightness of touch and that fabulous viewfinder - open-eyed shooting is cool - plus the 40mm is such a lovely focal length. I've had the lens about 15 months longer than the camera and didn't really like it on my M7 - saw too much funny out of focus fringing which of course must be there still, but for whatever reason I'm not producing the same effect.

The Rollei 40/2.8 Sonnar is also very sweet with the R3A.

Looking good. I like seeing color work with this lens. I always shoot b&w because I'm boring I guess. The foosball shot is nice. Lots of layers and color.

I have this lens and should use it more. The problem is at this stage, I have so much crap to choose from. Keep it simple. That lens was made for that camera and its 40mm framelines.

My R3A broke, so I got the R2A to replace it and it works better for me and my big goofy eyeglasses. I got a 50mm Heliar Classic with the R2A, so it sort of bumped the 40mm back in the line. The 40 is a much sharper lens. Maybe you'll inspire me to pick it up out of the display case 😉

I have the same combo but I didn't use 40 much until I bought 50 nokton. While I like 50 I started to shoot 40 more than ever before because its size doesn't bother me (in comparison to 50) 😀

yeah i wanted the 50mm f1.5, but i got a good deal for both body and lens as a combo, and I like this lens. I take it wherever I go, and I don't want to lug more lenses. I really enjoy it, and the focal lenght is really good for an all around lens.

I am currently working some deals for this combo (R3M+40mm nokton). I am selling off some skis, a Ricoh GR-D, a light meter, etc for this combo. It looks like it will be worth it...

My sentiments exactly ! I want to shoot my Ms more, but the R3A+40 just jumps out of the pack and into my bag. Even the MFs are beginning to resent it. 😀

Actually, I've just discovered that the R3A is great with the 75/2 Leica Summicron lens too - it sits better on the body than on an M and the dedicated 75mm viewframes are much better than the partial frames just inside the 50mm ones in the M viewfinder.

I'm off on a week's holiday in Sardinia shortly and I think I'll just be taking the R3a, 40/1.4, 75/2 and my CZ 25/2.8 with me (plus VC finder). That should do me nicely.

Don't mean to hijack this thread but I've been very curious about how the 75/2 works on an R3A, especially with regards to focusing at minimum distance (0.7 meters to 1m), wide open.

The R3A and the 40mm f1.4 Nokton are a perfect match.

I especially enjoy using the SC (single coated) version of this lens with color film, even though it's often recommended for B&W film. To me the 'look' of the SC is similar to 1960's Leica lenses in terms of contrast.

The 40mm focal length feels just right and more suited to my photography than either a 35mm or a 50mm.
