I might have lost my mind.

Tonight I was installing a new grey griptac on my M6. I bought a black for my M4-P and a grey for the M6. I love the griptac ever since I installed it on my M8 about 6 months ago.

As I was applying the griptac to the M6 I looked over at the M8 and realised there was a problem. It did not have black griptac on it! It had the original cover..that slightly sandpapery cover. WTF! I was sure I installed the black griptac on it. Found the reciept from Camera leather and sure enough I bought it for the M8. It is the only M8 I have ever owned. I remember doing this!

I have lost my mind

The M8 died in May and went to the NJ branch of the Leica HMO. They did the full, big fix on everything and did it quickly and for free. While the cover is not listed on the invoice as having been replaced they must have done it; no other explination. The griptac was almost new and in perfect shape.

Apparently i was so excited to get the M8 back I failed to notice the new cover 🙂

the folks on Pearl Street are trying to gaslight you. nasty trick. actually, I think they have to pull the covering off for certain service and they therefore automatically put the slippery original stuff back on at no charge. as Dan Quaylude said, "it's a terrible thing to lose one's mind."

When I had mine serviced, I just asked them to leave it nekkid...I ordered new griptac while the camera was away and re-covered when it came home.

It is pretty nuts, what they charge for vulcanite, compared to the sandpapery stuff.
