I need help with this and the Gimp

It was late and hot that evening and I promised to do something against the reflections.

But I can't figure out how to do it :-(
 
See this tutorial, it is a tutorial on how to salvage an image with blown highlights, you may be able to use parts of it to tone down the shininess. There are a few other good tutorials on that site you may want to peruse also.

Yes, that may help. From the first few sentences it looks as if I can use it.
 
Not sure about the Gimp but in PS you can use the "healing brush" and remove some of the shine in no time.
