It is cheap if you take into consideration that the price also includes a CLA and leatherette replacement. "OH" is short for "overhaul", the term used in Japan for a full CLA.

P.S. Masa will charge less if you contact him directly, rather than winning one of his auctions. He pays a 5.25% charge to Yahoo Japan for each auction.

Since I live in Japan I paid in yen, so I don't suffer from the poor exchange rate. If the exchange rate was what it was in 2007, the cost would have been only $390. I thought about using Shintaro's service (it's not like I can't afford it), but his regular service doesn't include CLA service and vulcanite replacement, besides the fact that I don't wish to wait several months.
Masa has a good reputation around Tokyo for servicing Leica cameras, I'm looking forward to getting my camera back from him. He says it should arrive to me tomorrow morning, which means that service from door to door will have taken only 4 days.
He can also overhaul and repaint Leica lenses, which I will look into once I get my camera back.

I need more information about Masa-san. The fast service seems impressive, but speed doesn't always mean good work. In fact, it should create doubt about quality. So I will wait til OP receives camera and gives feedback about the work before going into business with Masa-san. Anyway, price is very reasonable.
Did you get your repainted M4 back? How'd it turn out?

It was de-chromed before painting, right? Any recommendations on letting the paint cure? Can't imagine it's tough as nails in four days time 😕 ??

A fellow RFF member also does this repaint jobs for about $450 or $500, including CLA. I think it's Digitalintrigue. I'll look for his site in my other machine and try to post it here later.

The camera was waiting for me in my parcel box when I arrived home this morning (I had to travel out of town for t he weekend).
Masa did an excellent job. The paint looks great, and he was able to repair a couple of minor dings in the top cover. While he had the camera he replaced the shutter curtains and performed a CLA. The camera has a "new" feeling to it, it's mechanical operation feels more firm and precise. The vulcanite looks similar to the original, and is precisely fitted.
I'll take some pics of the camera today while I am at work (I am on the train right now) and upload them tonight. I have already loaded up the camera with film, and I'm looking forward to taking it out and shooting with it.

BTW, HERE is the link to the site I mentioned above. It's "Restoration35/leica" and they offer the same kind of job for $450 (a partial restoration or "pandification" for $350). It's not a flat fee: a CLA will cost $95 and a number of small parts and pieces that may need replacement have their own price tag, from $5 to $75. But there's no need to send your camera abroad, as they work in Austin TX.
At times I've played with the idea of buying a Leica M3 and have it painted black by these people... but then, I first have to find the M3 🙂 !

Okay, I am home, and I have a few pics of the M4. These were taken at my desk at work using a cheap dejikame (Japanese for digital camera), so I apologize for the poor quality.
Another word about Masa's service, he included a detailed invoice which showed photographs of the process of the work, including a photo of the readings on his shutter speed testing equipment to verify to me that the shutter was properly adjusted.
All in all I have to say that the quality and speed of his work are top-notch. I found a cheap M3 while shopping around yesterday, and I am tempted to send it Masa to get it repainted as well.
