Lately Ive been learning about Nikon F and thinking about them all the time. Its amazing how when you are thinking about a certain thing you suddenly start seeing it everywhere.

I was watching this JFK documentary and there was a part where there was a meeting of law enforcement after the crime, and according to the narrator, the only guy in the meeting that wasnt a law enforcement person was ..... wait for it ........ da da da da da.... Jack Ruby. He was in the back and in front of him was a guy with what looked like a Nikon F. If true, thats amazing at just how old that design is.

Im noticing them everywhere now, where before I never did.

Of course, Bob Jackson used an S3 to get his famous photo of Ruby murdering Oswald.
Rumors, rumors...

There was a guy on Dealey Plaza who shot the... assassination scene using a chrome Nikon F (Photomic model). His photos were used by the Warren Commission IIRC (to prove that President Kennedy had been... shot).

Wasn't that James Altgens who used a Mamiya made Nikkorex F camera with a Nikkor 105 mm lens ?

I would expect a Nikon F to be there... it must have been widely used at that point.

There were Fs a plenty in the police garage when they first introduced Oswald to the media after he was charged with Officer Tibbits murder, then the president's. Less then 18 hrs. later, he was shot by Ruby.

why was jack ruby in that meeting? That is a stone in my shoe.
Jack Ruby owned a night club. Many policemen were regular customers of the place ; as a reward Jack Ruby could attend police meetings quite easily it seems... Also, you might - or might not - know that during the months preceeding the assassination, the club hosted some other "meetings", with men like... Lee Harvey Oswald.

Ruby told he killed Oswald to avoid a trial which would have upset Jackie Kennedy a lot. Of course... 😀

How many of you were alive when Kennedy was assassinated? I was in high school in algebra class. I was watching live TV and saw Ruby kill Oswald that Sunday morning. Hard to believe I saw what I did. Freaks a person out just a bit.

The F, Leica M, 4x5 Crown and Speed Graphic and TLR Rollei were the main cameras of the day.

why were you guys watching live tv in algebra class? I wasnt born yet but I remember when regan was shot. We watched a replay but that was in social studies. Teacher wheeled in a big tv on a cart and ancient video tape player. He said "watch this what happened today"

I was watching film this week (not video) of Oswald being led out, seconds before he was shot, and an unmistakeable Leica M is being held up right in front of the cameraman.

Why wouldn't we have an entire class on algebra? Sometimes it's rolled together with trigonometry, but for a semester course, I think algebra is a sufficiently meaty topic, particularly "advanced" algebra, as they called it (you know, quadratic equations -- makes me break out in a sweat decades later).
