Hello!

The Fuji GA645 is almost perfect, except the frame format. I would like it to shot square.
Any suggestions of a similar camera but producing 6x6 slides/negatives? And at the same price of the camera if possible.

Greetings,
Eugen

One advantage of the GA645 is that it is small and it gets 16 exposures. Not sure if it could retain its size and do the square. I would have kept mine for sure if it was 6x6. The other great advantage of the GA is that it is cheap. One the best values in MF, no doubt. There is no 6x6 camera of similar form factor to the GA at that price. The Mamiya 6 is way more expensive. TLR's are quite cheap as are some of the Bronica 6x6 slr's if you must have 6x6.

i feel exactly the same way! nice to know there are others out there like me. i could not find any AF 'compact' cams like that in 6x6 for anywhere near the money. the best i could do is the old mamiya 6x6 folder with a very good zuiko 3.5/75 lens and coupled RF focus. amything better at comparable price and size, i'd love to know about it!

In terms of compact size, af capabilty and cost, going to be hard to find anything in 6x6.. In terms of af in 6x6, right now I cannot remember if anyone makes one in film right now.

In terms of the other aspects, size wise, there are plenty of good cameras if u are ok with scale focusing or rf...

Smallest would be scale focusing folder like the voigtlander Perkeo followed by the rf ones like the Zeiss super ikonta IIi, iv or b, agfa isolletes both w/ and w/o rf, next bigger would be something like the Mamiya 6 and the Fuji gf670 (in 6x6 mode)..

Here is an interesting site which shows some of these folders plus some pictures from them..

Good luck

Limited...

Limited...

6X6 mostly in TLR and Folders, then SLR's from Mamiya, Pentax, Hasselblad, Bronica.

Can't think of any 6X6 in rangefinder horizontal transport. Most of the cameras that shot 6X6 in the SLR format had various backs that could shoot 645, 66, and 6x9.

Think it will be an unlikely find.

Only 6X6 SLR that I liked was the Bronica SQ-A and SQ-B... the B had no electronics, meter and such. This was a modular system camera, and the B was the lightest 6X6 I encountered. Not much heavier than the GA with the waist level finder, but bulkier. Also had to meter by hand.

Wow.....

Wow.....

Wouldnt the Mamiya 6 be the closest in functionality? Obviously more expensive though.

You blindsided me on that one! That's probably as close to on target as any. The other close system is the Fuji GM670 and GW670 cameras.

I never think about the Mamiya 6 and 7 series because I consider them to be the most overpriced aging systems on the market. A good serviceable 6 with a normal lens...75mm, should be attainable at the price of a good GA645, but they rarely are. It's a real hunt to find a Mamiya 6/7 rangefinder at a respectable price.

OTOH,,, if you can stretch to Fujifilm, A first generation GW670 should be priced about where the GA645 sells, but missing metering and AF. I'm a handheld meter user, so that's not a huge problem for me.

mamiya 6 is all that comes to mind.
Had the GA645 bu t have to admit I didn't like it much, preferred my old Zeiss Ikon Ikonta B. I just the other day saw a minty Balda Baldix for sale, it's on the way here now, but all manual everything of course...

Man I would love one as well. Sold my GA645 because didn't get on with 645. Now have Fuji GF670 and Rolleiflex, had a Mamiya 6 and loved it. Always felt though it was going to break at any moment. Bothe Fuji and Rollei give amazing results. Especially with slides.
