I don't know how many may remember that I got into a local project: taking pictures of my town, so that the negatives would be stored and become property of the city and part of the archives for future researchers.

The project, called DeKalb Streetscapes, was part of the Sesquicentennial of DeKalb (150 years old), and aimed at gathering images of the town and how it looks now in 2006. There was a total of 15 volunteers (some film shooters, others digital people), who produced about 1500 photographs. From those, around 65 were selected for the show that will be on display throughout the month of August at the town's cultural center. Three judges volunteered sifting the images and selecting the ones for the show.

I got picked.

In fact, 10 of my shots (I used up some 4 rolls, two in color and two in B&W) will be hung in the exhibit. According to the letter I received yesterday, I'm the photographer who has the largest amount of pics displayed.

Understandably, I'm kinda proud... and so is my wife! :)

I simply wanted to share this with you... because, unlike my first exhibit (self-financed and self-promoted), this time there were professional photographers judging the work. I had no hopes of being selected, but did the assignment nonetheless, because I really liked the idea and this town has some surprising places still unexplored (by me!).

Thanks for your patience! Later I'll scan some of the prints. There are photos done with my Nikon F100 and the b&w shots done with my M6TTL and my Hexanon 35/2.

Alright, I'll stop here...

Sesquicentennial - Is that a Big Foot celebration?

Congrats on being picked. I hope you use it to catapult you to do more.

10 good pics out of 4 rolls is good, to get 10 picked like that is phenomenal.
What was the Ansel Adams quote, "12 good pics a year is pretty good." Make these last 2 count!

Congratulations, I think any aspiring photographer would be tickled pink to be selected for an important exhibit. Would love to see the scans.

Congratulations Francisco. You and your wife need to celebrate this wonderful occasion. It is an honorable event to have ten of your photos be selected to show the pride of living where you do.

Congratulations Francisco. :) I'd love to see the pic's. It must be such a great thrill to even have 1 of your pic's making the cut out of 1500. You got 10! Wow!
