Also on some of them the spool doesn't have a film-trapping slot, but instead just a spot-welded tab I guess you're supposed to tuck the film end under and fold it over, but these are hard to load and it usually pulls out at the end of the roll.

I would be intersted to see a pic of that spool type. I tend to think that they may not be original. I have bought quite a few FILCA's and IXMOO's over time and once in a while one may come with wrong spool, mostly plastic from single use cassettes, though.

i've just posted pics of it and its canister, post #20. It is brass and has the same engraved arrow as the "good" ones so it seems original. I think I've seen references to these types somewhere, possibly on a thread about early FILCA types.

Yeah, I was surprised to see how legitimate it looks. Maybe you're right - maybe this is just a very early variation. I just found this on the L Camera Forum:

It does look like those. And there's no reason at all to assume this hasn't been mix-n-matched since afaik the spools are all pretty much interchangeable. I guess they were intended for loading pre-cut lengths of film if it's from that early era - so one might not have used the spool at all, if daylight-loading a preassembled roll. It's really only inconvenient for using daylight bulk loaders.

Now I just wish sellers were able to distinguish between IXMOO and FILCA so you could count on them working in M bodies as well as Barnacks.
